The Central Southern England region

The

Old Stables holiday cottages are situated to the South of the wonderful

medieval city of Salisbury, in a small hamlet in beautiful countryside.

There

is much to see and do in this lovely part of Wiltshire. The cathedral city of

Salisbury is only a 20 minute walk with its stunning cathedral, a huge array of

shops and great places to eat out.

There

is so much to see and do in this part of England, including Salisbury Cathedral,

with Europe's oldest working clock, Britain's tallest spire and the best preserved

of the 4 surviving original copies of the Magna Carta manuscripts. If you have

a head for heights then a tower tour is a must for spectacular views of the

city.

Why

not attend choral evensong at Salisbury Cathedral - this takes place every day

and is a concert in itself, open to all and is free! Walk from Salisbury to Old

Sarum via the path along the river and enjoy the magnificent views from the

outer bailey. Stroll around Salisbury's medieval city centre or Cathedral Close

and admire the huge variety of architecture. Take part in guided walks and

visits as part of the annual Heritage Open Days programme each September.

Salisbury

is best explored on foot with a maze of intriguing side streets and a huge

variety of shops, quaint cafes and pubs for you to enjoy during your stay at

this holiday cottage in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Why not join a walking tour and

for those that get tired of walking you can hire cycles to discover more for

yourself.

Of

course, any visitor to Wiltshire will be keen to go and see Stonehenge. Unlike

any structure on this earth, the mysterious stones continue to amaze holiday

makers to this day. Make sure you get there early in the morning or late in the

day to avoid the rush.

Longleat,

England's first safari park with animals roaming is a great day out for the

all. A visit to the New Forest is also good entertainment for the family, take

a picnic and join in with activities such as canoeing, kayaking, archery and

family combat are all available.

For

garden lovers Wiltshire boasts many famous and beautiful gardens to visit

during your stay at this holiday cottage near Salisbury. Gardens include the

world-renowned landscape gardens ofStourhead are spectacular at any time

of the year. In spring the paths around the lake are alive with the dramatic

display of azaleas and rhododendrons. Meanwhile, the rich autumnal colours of

the trees reflected in the glassy water is surely one of the South West's most

iconic views. A lovely afternoon can be spent exploring these Wiltshire gardens

and enjoying tea and cakes in the tea room afterwards

With

the Wildlife Trust's Langford Lakes Nature Reserve and the many cycle routes around

the area's beautiful countryside, there is so much to keep everyone busy. Visit

Downton Moot - an 18th century landscape garden in a lovely setting beside the

River Avon if you have time. With many beautiful villages with picturesque

houses and traditional English pubs to explore - this is England at its best

and we don't think you will be disappointed!

If

you would like to bring your pony or horse, it goes without saying, there is wonderful riding in the area, you

and your companion will have a fabulous time exploring the countryside.
