The Cap Estate region
St Lucia, an independent island within British Commonwealth, is known as the "Helen" of the Indies for its natural beauty. It is volcanic in origin with rain forest, high hills, with flatter agricultural land and Banana Plantations. Many bays, inlets and sandy beaches.
The Caribbean Sea is normally very calm and safe for swimming whereas the Atlantic side is rougher but very scenic. Climate is typically tropical - lots of sunshine and depending on season showers. Late December to mid-April is the drier cooler period.
Saline Point area
Excellent 18 Hole Golf course, tennis courts and local beaches within 5 minutes drive as is the Pigeon Island National Trust Park of historical interest but also with 2 attractive quiet beaches.
The Rodney Bay Marina tourist area 15 minutes away has diverse restaurants all price ranges, pubs/discos supermarkets, duty free shopping and Reduit Reach with many watersports on offer. Various island and boat tours,diving/snorkeling, deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching,rain forest activities and hiking are also available. For cricket Beausejour Stadium is also 15 minutes away for test/international cricket matches.
Major Jazz Festival in May, Carnival in July and other festivals through year.
How to get there
From London Gatwick direct to Hewanorra St Lucia by BA or Virgin, then helicopter or taxi or rental vehicle. Same Airlines from Gatwick to Antigua or Barbados transfer by LIAT to Vigie Airport St Lucia then taxi or rental vehicle.
For visitors from or via USA and Canada then American,Delta or Air Canada have many flights.
Drive-A-Matic vehicle rental is top for quality, rates and delivery, but also all majors AVIS etc.
