The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region
The spectacular Aquitaine coast with 250 miles of golden sand is 40 minutes away. Visit the elegant and sophisticated resort towns of Biarritz and Bayonne, both full of interesting attractions, good restaurants and a variety of shops. Watch the action on the beach in the laid-back surfers paradise of Hossegor. Wander the meandering lanes of St Jean de Luz with it's sandy horseshoe bay, restaurants, bars, and town square where local artists display their work .
Visit the town of Pau with it's varied architecture, interesting old quarter and famous Chateau. Relax with a drink at one of the many open air cafes along the Boulevard de Pyrenees with views of the mountains. Watch the world go by and enjoy a little oh la la!
Go 40 minutes south to experience the beauty of the Pyrenees, drive through glorious scenery, hike through meadows to hidden lakes or just drift along the easy paths. Go through the rolling Basque country and over the border into Spain, visit the beautiful old coastal town of San Sebastien.
Salies de Bearn area
Salies de Bearn is a small and very picturesque spa town. It is known as the Venice of the Bearn because of the way some of the houses overhang the river on stilts. The old part of the town dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries and one can still see the names of the original owners carved over the lintels.
The town has a selection of good restaurants, bars and shops. During the summer months there are a number of festivals in both Salies and the local towns. A great opportunity to experience local customs and enjoy the party!
From Maison Rose you can walk into the centre of town in 10 minutes. Leave the car behind and enjoy a meal with a glass of wine or two! The local shop for all provisions is 3 minutes away. The local Golf Club is a 2 minute walk, membership not necessary to play.
How to get there
Salies de Bearn is situated 5 minutes drive off exit 7 of the A64. Depending on how you are arriving and from which direction the owner will forward full directions at the time of booking.
