Maison Cousteres is situated in the picturesque historic market town Salies de Bearn., Set in rolling countryside but within easy walking distance. Salies narrow cobbled streets, ancient houses and river make it a perfect setting to while away the hours. It could be mistaken for 'Lilliput' There are numerous bars, restaurants, boulangeries, shops. chemists, and chocolatiers. Important for some vine yards and wines caves, where you can taste and purchase the local wines direct. One just a short walk down the lane. There is something for every one with Golfing, fishing, swimming, cycling, walking, canoeing, festivals, Local weekly markets. Try the local hams, cheese, foix gras, also pimentos and peppers called pipperade which this area is famous for. All these foods are celebrated in fantastic festivals through out the spring and summer months.
. Historic walled towns and so much more are all within a short drive. Salies De Bearn was built on the salt mines. You can visit the catacombs or try the salt for yourself at the salt museum or the famous ' Thermes' bathe in its healing hot salt spa pool with massaging jets. Try the steam room and the many beauty and health treatments available. A visit to the pool is a little under 10 euro's Great for the ladies while the men look after the little one's.
'Maison Cousteres offers the chance to step back in time as the house has been beautifully restored to its former glory of 1724. It is set In an acre of garden with wonderful views from the totally private terrace and large 10m x 5m swimming pool. A short hop across the lane takes you on a wonderful wooded walk.
The house has four lovely bedrooms two with en suit shower rooms. There is a downstairs family bathroom, and further. separate toilet.
A large fully fitted dining kitchen seating 12 in comfort. leading to the south facing garden and pool. It gets full sun into late evening.
For cyclists 'The tour de France' is a frequent visitor to the area.There are many Tour stages nearby.
For walkers and ramblers try part of the pilgrim 'Route de compostell'.
Spain is an hours drive. The Seaside resort of Biaritz just 40 mins. You can swim in the nearby lake at Orthez with it's lovely beach. great for babies and toddlers. For the more adventurous try a picnic and swim in the local river where the crisp refreshing water flows
from the pyreness.

Out side there a large swimming pool 10 metres by 4.7 metres . A large terrace with sunbeds tables and chairs with parasols looking out onto wonderful views. Totally private with an acre of garden. This garden gets sun until late evening So if you want shade then try the front garden This garden also has tables chairs and parasol. Ideal spot for breakfast.

The Aquitaine/Dordogne region
From mountain ranges and peaks with ski resorts for beginners and advanced, to beaches and coastline.There is so much to explore. Hot summers ,warm springs and autumn, mild winters with an abundance of snow in the mountains. There is something for all seasons.
Golf courses, cycle routes, river lake and sea fishing. Take the children to the man made beach at Orthez and let them swim safely in the warm lake, lifeguards on duty and just 20 minutes away. Historic walled towns, roman ruins, thermal spas and baths', lush country side, rolling hills. Festivals celebrating everything from salt to peppers, to cheese and wines. The french love any excuse to party. Weekly markets. The ancient cathedral cities of Pau and Bayonne to sightsee and shop. Try the many waterside sea food restaurants in Bayonne. All this and more and all within a short drive. Do as much as you want or as little as you please.
Visit Spain for the day. Just one hour away. Carry on to San Sebastian or Pampalona, famous for it's bull run.

Salies de Bearn
Salies de Bearn is a five minute walk away. This beautiful unspoilt area of France has everything to offer. If cooking is your thing visit the many weekly markets. Use my french and basque cook books to conjure a traditional french feast to enjoy alfresco with family and friends. The town of Salies has a host of small shops selling everything from local delicacies such as foie gras, and bayonne ham to cheeses and fresh meats. Try the wines from the local caves. Pamper yourself at the thermes with healing warm salt waters and powerful relaxing jets. Sit and watch the world go by in one of the bars or restaurants.. Do one of the many marked walks, or try a round of golf . Visit the museum of salt. Salt made Salies famous, Hence the fete de sel usually celebrated in the first week of September, a must see spectacle of fun.
We recommend the Belle Auberge in the next village it is recommended in the Michelin guide. The food is excellent. Booking is necessary. We would gladly do this for you. Visit Sorde l' Abbaye and see the ruined monastry and roman mosaics just 5 minutes away or visit Peyrehorade with its weekly market 10 minutes away. Try the scenic route to Sauveterre to see the walled town and take in the view of the Pyrenees. Local maps available. Walk down to the river to fish or just to relax.
