Maison Floance is situated in a quiet hamlet on the edge of Salies de Bearn, in the heart of the Bearn region, between the Pyrenees and the beaches of the Atlantic coast.
The house is a modern detached property but has a traditional Bearnaise feel and is set in a large garden, ideal for families, small groups or couples. There are three bedrooms and a mezzanine sleeping area with views of the surrounding countryside. Lovely light living room/dining room with a wood burning stove. Off the living room there is a small sun lounge. Fully equipped kitchen, two shower rooms and two separate wc's. The house is fully central heated. Good sized garden with recently installed inground heated swimming pool.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region
Salies de Bearn is in the South of the Pyrenees Atlantiques region (64) and borders the Midi Pyrenees, Landes and Basque regions. There is easy access to the majestic Pyrenees and the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic. The climate is mild with warm sunny summers.
Visit the historic Bastide towns in the region, and follow the pilgrims road of St Jaques de Compostella to the pretty Basque town of St -Jean-Pied-de-Port. View the spectacular scenery of the Pyrenees and the eagles soaring above you as you travel by train up the mountain of La Rhune. Visit Pau and Biarritz for that extra special shopping experience. For the cyclists, the Tour de France regularly passes through this area.

Salies de Bearn area
Salies de Bearn is a typical medieval town of winding lanes, with the river Saleys flowing through it. It is famed for its thermal spa and fitness centre. Within the region there are a number of festivals to enjoy for example Fetes du Sel (mid September), the Festival of the peppers (mid August) in Salies de Bearn and the Fete de la Blondes in Sauveterre de Bearn in the last week of August.
For the local produce there is a market in Salies de Bearn on Thursdays, and Tuesdays in Orthez. During July and August the local farm, Lamotte in the hamlet has a farmers market every Tuesday.
Located In Salies de Bearn there is the Base de Plein Air de Mosqueros. A wooded park which has good sporting facilities such as tennis, badminton, table tennis and also an outdoor swimming pool and paddling pools.
For those wanting a bit of excitement there is the recently refurbished Hotel/Casino in Salies where there is also a lovely bar and dining room. Further afield there is the famous casino in Biarritz.
Other activities nearby include the water park at Oloron, fishing in the local rivers, water sports including rafting, canoeing, climbing, surfing and body boarding.
The area is ideal for food and wine lovers with excellent restaurants and vineyards locally. There is a 12 hole golf course in the town, with other courses within easy reach by car.
Of course in winter there is skiing with the resorts of Gourettes and La Pierre St Martin (approx 1 hr away) and Cauterets (approx 2 hrs away).
For those of you who enjoy walking there are many walks through the magnificent countryside for all abilities.
There are a number of excellent restaurants in Salies such as La Terrasse which overlooks the River Saleys and the L'Auberge des Fontaines Fleuries which is in a pretty square. Also in the town is the vineyard Lapeyre Guilhemas where you can visit the cave and sample the excellent wines.
How to get there
Salies de Bearn is very easy to get to.
Flights by budget airlines into Pau, Biarritz., Bordeaux and the Spanish airport Bilbao. Airlines who serve these airports include Ryanair, Easyjet, BA, BMI and Flybe. Pau and Biarritz are the nearest airports being only 45 minutes by car.
Motorrail (SNCF) to Biarritz. TGV from Paris to Biarritz and Orthez
P&O ferries from Portsmouth to Bilbao (Spain) and Brittany ferries from Plymouth to Santander.
Car hire is available through the usual agents.
Good motorway access from all Channel ports.
