Home description

Great place for relaxing by the pool or entertaining. The hall has a banquet dining area which seats 14, or dine al fresco by the pool. Separate room for DVD with surround sound system, 2 bathrooms, one with a spa bath and huge shower. Electric oven so no need for refilling gas bottles.

Plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay. Local markets, excellent restaurants, great for bike riding and walks. Swimming and golf only 5 minutes away. Train station and supermarkets nearby. Just forty minutes from the beach, sking, plane, ferry. Pub 5 minutes walk. Pets welcome.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Pyrenees Atlantiques region

The Aquitaine coastline is one long beach of fine sand and rocky coves. 250 km in a single stretch. Wouldn't want to walk that in a hurry. There is also the largest sand dune in Europe at Arcachon witch is a 2.5 Hrs drive .
Skiing, walking, surfing, swimming, hiking, cycling, horse riding, golfing, shopping and much more all within a few minutes drive.

The weather here is mild all year, very warm in summer months.

Salies de Bearn / Berenx area

Visit the Thermes Salies de Bearn Heated spa and swimming pool, indoor and outdoor. Water massage jets are wonderfully relaxing.

Dax, famed for its natural hot water of 62.4 degrees centigrade, and healing mud from the River Adour. The Roman baths are a focal point . There are several hot water outlets around the town, where you can take a mud bath, or just bath in the waters. In August Dax holds its annual fete, two weeks of celebrations ending in a magnificent firework display.

Biarritz has a beautiful rocky coastline with sandy beaches. Biarritz is today Europe's surf capital.
30 minutes drive.

Bayonne famous for its "fête" - 5 days of non-stop festivities. Bayonne is also known for its bull fighting in August, and its famous ham. (Danish bacon is still the best!) 30 minutes drive

St Jean de Luz, the old "Pirates town" with a beautiful harbour. Here and in the place Louis XIV are the ever popular artists, who display their paintings along the street. You can even get your portrait painted "while you wait". In the harbour you can take a boat to see the sights. It has a wonderful sandy beach in a natural bay. 40 minutes drive.

How to get there

Routes from Calais can be emailed if required. We are 600 miles south of Calais , easy driving all the way. Ryanair fly from Stansted to Biarritz and Pau twice daily , they also fly from Liverpool to Bergeracq .
Directions from Biarritz,
• Take the A64 in the direction of Pau
• Exit at exit 7 and drive towards Salies de Bearn
• When you reach a round-about with a fountain in the centre, turn left in the direction of Berenx.
• Just before the Auberge de Relais in Berenx turn right at the house with the Aqua Shutters, then first left then first right into Chemin de Bahade then when you go through between the Majors house and barn Maison Bahade is the first house on the right.

Directions from Pau
• Take the A64 in the direction of Pau (from Toulouse and Italy).
• After passing Pau;
• Exit at exit 8 and drive towards Orthez town centre and go through the town (there are two or three ways of going through the Orthez town centre (ville) from A64 exit,). Staying on the main road go through Orthez town centre for another 3 or so miles in the directions of Salies de Bearn.
• Turn right at the sign to Berenx (and go over the overpass over the A64)
• Just after the Auberge de Relais (pub on the right) in Berenx turn left at the house with the Aqua Shutters, then first left, then first right into Chemin de Bahade, then when you go through between the Major’s house and his barn, Maison Bahade is the first house on the right.
