The West Country region
Devon is in the South west of England and is the 4th largest of the English counties and has a population of just over a million people. The county town is the beautiful cathedral city of Exeter, the other 2 major areas are the port city of Plymouth and Torbay, a conurbation of seaside resorts. Plymouth is also the largest city in Devon. Much of the county is rural (including national park) land, with a low population density by British standards. It contains Dartmoor 954 km2 (368 square miles), the largest open space in southern England.
Devon has a mild climate and the county receives generally warm summers compared to the rest of the United Kingdom, due to its southerly location.
There are a wealth of things to do in the county, too many to even begin to mention, but you can go to www.visitdevon.co.uk for more information.
Hallsands - Just a 5 minute walk from Prospect House, Hallsands beach is something of a hidden gem and a favourite with local people. It’s a long unspoilt beach with rockpools to explore. There’s usually plenty going on: people hauling up little fishing boats, going diving, fishing from the shore, or just enjoying the sea and views. Another 15 minutes along the coast path is the village of Beesands which has a wonderful pub - The Cricket Inn, serving excellent food & drink all year round. The next village along the coast path is Torcross, with a pub, restaurant, cafe, shop & post office. Slapton Sands with Slapton Ley Nature Reserve is about 5 miles from Prospect House. A pebbly three-mile long beach, popular with divers, and the largest freshwater lake in south west England. Continuing along the coast road and you will reach arguably Devon’s most beautiful family beach, Blackpool Sands has Blue Flag awards, a summer lifeguard and an organic beach café. Only 2 miles on from here is Dartmouth a prestigious and historic waterfront town, famed for its naval college, Dartmouth’s old streets are lined with fashionable shops, galleries, bars and restaurants. Heading along the coast path the other direction from Prospect House after 2 miles you come to Start Point Lighthouse The lighthouse stands on one of the UK’s most dramatic peninsulas, which juts almost a mile out into the sea.
Originally built in 1836, it was fully automated in 1993,and its beam is visible 25 sea miles away. The town of Kingsbridge is only 8 miles from Prospect House. A bustling market town with a wide range of independent shops, good restaurants, a supermarket, a thriving local cinema and regular markets. Kingsbridge stands on the banks of a great tidal inlet stretching from Salcombe to Kingsbridge town centre, with endless possibilities for expeditions exploring its sheltered creeks and coves Finally 12 miles from Prospect House is the popular sailing town of Salcombe. Salcombe clusters around a broad sheltered estuary and is the epicentre of the South Hams sailing scene with deep
water moorings, sailing schools, dinghy pontoons, boats for hire, racing, regattas and rallies.

"Excellent apartment and location"
Apartment is very clean, well maintained and equipped and in a beautiful location. It is very light and airy. The heating worked very well as it was cold in March. Mobile signal is tempermental but this is a benefit. We did not use the outdoor facilities because of the weather but they looked very nice. The apartment is in an excellent area for walking - the South West Coast Path goes past the front door. The owners are very helpful and answered our questions quickly by email and telephone. Will certainly return.
Dear Sue. Thank you for your kind words, and we very much hope to welcome you back to 3 Prospect House in the future. Kind regards, Sheila & David Thorpe.
