Home description
Salamanca is considered one of the most spectacular Renaissance cities in Europe. Through the centuries the sandstone buildings have gained an exquisite golden glow that has given Salamanca the nickname La Ciudad Dorada, the golden city. This golden glow is unique in Spain and is due to the "Villamayor Stone", a type of sandstone coming from a quarry situated in Villamayor, a village close to Salamanca.
The fully newly decorated state of the art apartment is located in one of the famous “Villamayor Stones” buildings, within the heart of Salamanca.

The Castilla/Leon/La Rioja region
The provincial Salamanca is bordering with Portugal and the provinces of Zamora, Avila and Caceres and is one of the most magical provinces of Spain. Land-drenched fertile river Douro and Tormes. Boasts grasslands where grazing herds of sheep, pigs or cows. Spectacular natural parks, including the above del Duero and Peña de France.
Picturesque villages lost in time and of course, their majestic capital, Salamanca. Salamanca was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2002. Salamanca has the oldest university in Spain, which is in turn the most beautiful and historic city in the country. It has 159,000 inhabitants. And it is the birthplace of Spanish Plateresque.
Salamanca area
Salamanca is reminiscent of Oxford and Cambridge in the sense that seems to breathe art, culture and knowledge, when you stroll through its streets and admire their noble houses, small palaces, its university, its towers, its cathedral…. To see the best views over the city, we need to go to the Parador de Salamanca, across the river Tormes.
The city is situated in hills 4, why the Romans used to call it the "Rome girl." It is a very popular city, with thousands of foreign students, who come each year to study one of the Spanish language and culture, which offers the University or some of the hundreds of existing academies. Salamanca is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city.
As in most of Spain, Salamanca was occupied by the Romans and Visigoths. During the period of Muslim occupation in the eighth century, Salamanca was from Arab hands into Christian hands several times. In the eleventh century, Alfonso VI reconquered the city to Christianity and appointed Conde Raimundo of Burgundy, which is responsible for it. This was the beginning of the re-conquest and this new situation of stability encouraged many people of the peninsula to buy a house in the city and installed there. In s.XII's Old Cathedral was built and this, along with being one of the top European Universities, was beginning to turn to Salamanca in a think tank established. Monasteries were built, residence halls, was collected donations to build new Catholic churches, and Salamanca became the largest city during the Renaissance. It was the time called "The Golden Age", a period full flowering of art, literature and music, in Spain. Fray Luis de Leon, Antonio de Lebrija, Lope de Vega, Christopher Columbus, Calderon de la Barca, Teresa de Jesus, San Juan de la Cruz and Cervantes, all of whom spent a part of their lives in Salamanca.

Guestbook
This apartment is without any doubt the most beautiful, elegant and comfortable that my wife and I have rented in many travels all over the world. It is decorated with great taste, has everything that you need to feel at home, the domestic appliances, furniture and laptop with internet access are brand new, and it's supplied with bottled water, juices, milk, teas, coffee, chocolates, and a wide assortment of breakfast breads and pastries. The two beds are firm and very comfortable and there are two sofa beds also, which easily can accommodate from 4 to 7 people with ample space and two marvelous baths. Cleaning is done meticulously to perfection. The apartment is located four blocks from the train station and two from a bus stop that goes to the centre of Salamanca. But the best are the owners, Gemma and Luis, they were extremely helpful, solving our problems, providing the finest printed guide to the city, advice on restaurants, and even a DVD rental shop located half a block from the apartment. We have been pampered and will be almost impossible to get anything close to this place in the future.
