The Como lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains and offers an extremely varied landscape. Most of the small villages are located closed to the lake river. The atmosphere and the over look idea when visitors arrive there it’s a huge variety of green. Blue green is the colour of the lake, green is the nature predominant all over and green are all the three that recovered all the mountains around. It’s seems time it’s stopped some century ago, the place is full of history you could find them on the archaeological rest or in the church or true the marvellous villas in which some of the most important Italian writers and artist were used to stay.
Into the small villages, crossing the lake with boats or making a walk on the mountains there are romantic and suggestive corner just waiting for the visitor discover them.
The most romantic and picturesque villages near Sala Comacina are Bellagio village ( 8 min by ferry from the ferry port in Cadenabbia) Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna, (15 min by ferry from the ferry port in Cadenabbia), Lenno village (5 min by car), , Menaggio village (10 minutes by car) and Como (30 min by car). There are also some umperdible historical villas opened to the public such as Villa Balbianello in Lenno (10 min by boat from Sala Comacina), Villa Carlotta’s garden in Tremezzo particularly for the beautiful and huge variety of flower (10 min by car), Villa Melzi in Bellagio, Villa Monastero in Varenna, Villa Olmo’s museum in Como. There are also beautiful promenade such the one to reach “Madonna del Soccorso” ( Under the UNESCO protection). The walk (40 min. from Sala Comacina) is signed with 14 chapels of the’700 century. Behind the church there is a typical and rustical place where it’s possible eating.
In Lenno there is also a romantic lake promenade called “Golfo di Venere”. After all visitors could enjoy of some relax moment at the Wellness Centre ( La Dolce Acqua Statale Regina 123 39 (0)344 55005)
The private beach are Lido di Lenno Beach Bar Restaurant or Lido di Menaggio Beach Bar Restaurant.

The Sala Comacina area
Sala Comacina is a little “Portofino” with its own coloured typical houses. It’s very small but very characteristic with few shops and some restaurants closed to the lake. There is also a free beach where residents and visitors could go just to take the sun or to swim in to the clean lake water.
The village of Sala Comacina it’s located in front of Comacina Island the only island on the lake, to reach: from the main square there is always a ferryman with its own typical small wood boat that bring the visitors and locals to the Island in 5 minutes. Everybody are used to go to the Island to visit the church, at the restaurant or just to walk in the nature. The Island was protagonist of the Como’s history in the Medieval and Roman Epoch, there are on it some archaeological rests to testimony. In the Island there are also three interesting houses are emblematic of the particular architecture period “Case D’Artista” (1900), projected by a Modern Italian Architect called Pietro Lingeri.
At the end of Sala Comacina began another village called Ossuccio where there are important and historical church. (www.comoeilsuolago.it)
During the long summer months there are many local festivals to take part in, including gastronomical fests, breathtaking, firework and light displays and live music concerts.
