The Rhone/French Alps region

Sainte Foy is a luxury winter sports resort in the French Alps, close to Italy and Switzerland. Located in the Savoie department, Sainte Foy lies in the Tarentaise valley, close to some of Europe's most famous ski resorts such as Val d'Isère, Tignes and Les Arcs. For this reason, it is often referred to as the 'Jewel in the Crown'. Sainte Foy’s stunning location gives breathtaking views of the valley below while the impressive Mont Pourri towers above. Unlike many larger resorts, Sainte Foy remains true to its roots, with plenty of alpine charm, uncrowded pistes and fantastic skiing.

Sainte Foy Tarentaise

The resort, which is found at an altitude of 1550m above sea level, was developed as a ski area in 1990 when the first three chairlifts were opened. Being a relatively new resort, the chalets and the resort centre have been built in a style very sympathetic with the old, local buildings. Traditional stone and wood finishes give the resort its authentic feel and there are no unsightly tower blocks which have become commonplace in so many ski resorts.

Continuing Sainte Foy's gradual, well-planned growth, a fourth, high-speed chairlift was installed for the winter of 2006-2007 and opened up a whole new area of new ski runs and off-piste. The highest lifted point is 2620m so there are more than 1000 vertical metres to be skied from top to bottom. Off-piste enthusiasts can take advantage of even larger descents, some of which extend for 1700 vertical metres.

There are currently 35km of piste (ski runs which have been route-marked and prepared by grooming machines) at Sainte Foy. Whilst the larger local resorts may have more pistes, one of Sainte Foy's key attractions is the fact that the chairlifts, the slopes and the off-piste are uncrowded. Even during peak weeks, such as school holiday weeks, there is rarely a queue to be seen at a chairlift and ski runs are often empty. It can sometimes feel as if you are skiing or snowboarding on your own private ski resort! What's more, Sainte Foy offers affordable lift passes at approximately £100 per week.

"Fantastic apartment"

The Chalet Louchelle is a very well appointed, spacious apartment in Sainte Foy Tarantaise. We would definitely recommend it to other families and groups.
It offers ample space for two families, with four double bedrooms and three good bathrooms and a separate WC. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more!
We visited the area in August and enjoyed the beautiful mountain walks from the resort and the pony club just across the road. AS well as the fabulous famers markets in the surrounding areas, the rivers and a local kids climbing park.

"A comfortable and spacious chalet at the foot of the slopes and within a short stroll of the bars and restaurants. Ideal"

We went to Louchelle with our three teenage children and without doubt is a perfect place for a family or larger group wanting a no hassle holiday with the piste just on the door step.

The accommodation is clean, comfortable and very spacious. On the ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen diner/lounge, loo and two bedrooms. The larger bedroom has an ensuite; with three teenagers in tow, this was essential!
Upstairs there's a further two spacious bedrooms (twin and double) and another bathroom.

Louchelle is in an ideal spot. After a morning skiing, you can just about ski to the front door for lunch. We also found it convenient to pop out for some child free time in the evening at one of the many local bars and restaurants.

The was a very good find for us and we'll certainly be going back - January in fact!

"Excellent Chalet in Sainte-Foy"

We stayed in Chalet Louchelle February 2011 and it was undoubtedly one of the best skiing holidays we've had. The apartment is perfectly situated - only a short walk to the ski slopes, local shop… More

"Loved Louchelle!"

Had never previously stayed in the Sainte Foy area, but it had been recommended to us over the more expensive Val d'Isere resorts for having similarly breathtaking views and being a short distance away from the slopes at Val if necessary - however we never bothered to make the trip over to Val, as fortunately for us Chalet Louchelle provided so much comfort and entertainment we never wanted to leave! So glad we gave this place a try.
The slopes are popular but not so busy you're stuck waiting at ski-lifts, with runs for a variety of skier - most of us were quite advanced and enjoyed the more challenging routes, however 2 of our group were unconfident but managed to progress from the magic carpet to the red runs by the end of the week!!
The reason for this review however is to say how pleased we were with our accommodation; it really made all the difference after exhausting ski days to come home to such a comfortable and homely chalet. the rooms were welcoming and nicely decorated, kitchen was fully equipped for us to make ourselves dinner on a few nights and the entire chalet had good wifi connection (always a plus)... also a flatscreen TV with DVD player for nights in we took full advantage of!! really benefited from being in a prime location too, right near the ski lifts so no time wasted getting to the slopes.
i really highly recommend this lovely chalet to groups of friends or families, makes such a difference to relax comfortably in a chalet as homely as this one. we will be back!!

"woderful relaxing holday in very comfortable family orientated apartment with fanatastic views of the alps"

Visited in August for the last four years and have enjoyed this wonderful region and apartment with fabulous views from the balcony . Local amenities are excellent and we have found travelling around easy both in France and Itally .Each year we have found plenty to do and the weather has been fantastic hot in day and cool at night.Able to swim every day in the lakes or local pool and walks are very good .Local water sports are reasonably priced. Local amenities at the site are very good and our teenage children have found plenty to do .Really great place for a family holiday and the apartment is first rate.

Stayed August 2010, traveled with family
