Home description
This traditional, pretty village house has been tastefully renovated and has three large double bedrooms, a newly fitted kitchen/diner (with a log burning stove), a large salon (including double sofa bed), a downstairs cloakroom/utility room and a large first floor bathroom with freestanding claw foot bath and a separate shower cubicle. Outside there is an elevated terrace close to the front door plus a large rear garden with attractive pointed stone buildings to include a covered summer terrace overlooking the pool (built in above ground pool, 3.5metres and 1.06 metres deep). All sections of the garden have views over vineyards.
The house is located in a small village (with bar/restaurant, shop and superb wine shop) close to the bustling bastide town of Duras (weekly market, banks, supermarket, bars, restaurants) with its romantic medieval chateau and surrounded by vineyards and orchards (the latter often producing the famous pruneaux d'Agen). An ideal area for those seeking a relaxing break, wine-tasting or for lovers of outdoor sports whilst being reminded everywhere of the historical importance of this region and the legacy remaining from its part in the 100 Years War.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
The house is situated close to the Dordogne/Gironde/Lot et Garonne borders so is ideally placed for visiting the many historic and fascinating sights that these areas have to offer. These include the numerous bastide towns created during the period of English occupation in the 12th to 15th centuries, for example Sainte Foy la Grande, Eymet and Monpazier, the latter two of which remain very much as they were when first built. They each hold weekly colourful markets selling local produce and crafts and there are frequent night markets during the summer months.
Slightly further east lie the delights of the Dordogne, in particular the medieval towns of Bergerac and Sarlat, the castle at Beynac-et-Cazenac and the prehistoric caves at Les Eyzies. To the west lies the world famous UNESCO World Heritage wine-producing town of St. Emilion, which makes a delightful destination for lunch, the beautiful and fascinating city of Bordeaux and then finally on to the seaside resort of Arcachon with its oyster beds, superb restaurants and long sandy beaches. South of Arcachon is the highest sand dune in Europe, the Dune du Pilar, which commands superb views.
Sainte Foy-la-Grande area
Les Marronniers d'Inde is situated in the highly regarded wine producing village of Landerrouat. It has its own shop and bar/restaurant and a superb wine shop at the cave, where you will be guaranteed a friendly welcome as you taste the local wines and it is only a short walk home afterwards! The village is surrounded by numerous chateaux where you can visit for wine tastings and also wonderful rolling countryside which is perfect for walking or cycling. The historic bastide town of Ste Foy la Grande is a fifteen minute drive.away and is located on the banks of the Dordogne river. The town holds one of the most highly regarded street markets in France every Saturday morning and, in addition, has all amenities such as large supermarkets, banks, restaurants, cafes, hospital, pharmacists and cinema.
Within a ten minute drive is the pretty bastide town of Duras, perched high up above the Dropt river valley. It has a lively and colourful market every Monday morning and there are several bars and restaurants, as well as the Chateau of the Ducs de Duras, now a museum and open to the public to explore. The chateau hosts concerts and events, including a wine fair in the summer featuring the local appellation, the Cotes de Duras.
A fifteen minute drive also takes you to the pretty bastide town of Monsegur, with its covered market place which is surrounded on all sides by bars and restaurants and home to the world famous International Swing Jazz Festival which takes place at the beginning of July each year.
For lovers of the outdoors, close by there is canoeing to be found on the River Dordogne, along with fishing and swimming, several leisure lakes, horse riding, walking, cycling, tennis, and both 9 and 18 hole golf courses, in particular the splendid golf course and spa at Chateau des Vigiers, some 15 minutes' drive away (www.vigiers.com) which is a great place to stop for lunch al fresco!
