About the home

Situated on the edge of an historic bastide town in the heart of some of France's finest wine-producing areas Les Terraces offers a superb venue for large family holidays or small corporate retreats. With a wide range of facilities available within the confines of the town, cars might be considered optional, particularly as there are good local rail links less than a kilometer away from the property.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region

Aquitiane is home to the largest forest in Europe, one of the few rivers with a tidal bore, millions of acres under vines, more chateaux and historic buildings than you couold possibly hope to see in a couple of years.

The climate is generally very good year-round. The local lore states that summer starts at the beginning of March and doesn't come to an end before the beginning of November. Even in the depths of winter the weather is normally fair, with cold days, but sunny clear skies which is much preferable to cold, damp and rainy weather that can be found further north.

There is an abundance of cultural, sporting, leisure and shopping opportunities within a few minutes walk from the house. If you choose to bring your bicycles then there are many places to explore - the countryside is relatively flat here. If you have a car then there is so much to do that we couldn't possibly list it all here!

Clearly, there are more activities available in the summer months, but we urge you to consider an out-of-season break if you want to see what the area is really all about without the crowds of July & August.

The Sainte Foy-la-Grande area

Sainte-Foy-La-Grande sits at the intersection of the Gironde, the Dordogne and the Lot & Garonne departments. A mere 25 minute drive from the historic towns of St. Emilion and Bergerac, and home to one of the "100 best markets in France" there is no doubt that there are plenty of cultural activities easily accessed from the town.

Sporting enthusiasts will find plenty to interest them, and Les Terraces is pleased to be offer special rates for golfers at the highly prestigious "Chateau des Vigiers", a 10 minute drive from the house.

There are some excellent restaurants in easy walking distance from the house, (both fine dining and simply good food/atmosphere) and a few fun bars that are great for people watching.

By air: Bordeaux Merignac International (BOD) is an hour-and-a-half's drive and is serviced by most major airlines.
Bergerac airport is a half-hour drive and is serviced by Flybe, Ryanair & Transavia.

By Rail: The TGV runs from Paris CDG to Libourne several times a day (duration approx 3h). From here you can connect to a local train to Sainte-Foy-La-Grande. Trains run frequently throughout the day.

By Road: Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is within a half hour drive of the E70 and an hour from the N10
