The Brittany region
Within reasonable travelling distance from the UK and with a better climate and exceptional beaches; Brittany is particularly suited to families with young children.
Couple this with a great coastline, good walking and cycling, ancient towns and castles and a distinct Celtic culture; Brittany is deservedly Frances second most popular area for holiday makers.
Be sure to enjoy the excellent see food, the local cider and of course: sweet and savoury crepes.
The area around St Vran is distinctly rural. There are no crowds and the pace of life is distinctly slower than the more populous coastal areas; this is part of its charm. With many of Brittany's attractions being within an easy car journey you get the best of both worlds.
The elegant resort of La Val-Andre with its long sandy beach is within easy reach (49km) together with the many fine beaches, fishing villages and coastal walks of the Cote D'Emeraude. St Malo (78km) is much more than a ferry port with its excellent beaches and walled old town and superb seafood restaurants. Close by are the medieval towns of Dinan (49km) and Josselin (40km) as well as the un spoilt local countryside, forests, lakes, castles, walks, markets and festivals of the Cote d'Armor.
More locally there is a boulangerie in St Vran (2km). For grocery shopping you will need to travel to the nearby small town of Merdrignac (9km) which has a supermarket, a convenience store, general shops and several restaurants. Merdrignac also has a sizable park with lake, tennis courts, children's play equipment and an outdoor swimming pool. For the more energetic, there is a long distance cycle path along the route of a disused narrow gauge railway.
One weekend in August the ancient local town of Moncontour (22km) hosts a Medieval Festival.
