The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
A region full of contrasts and delicate fragrances, the Provence is rich in beauty and delights the visitor at first sight, with its palette of rich colours of ochre hued houses with pastel shutters. There are many charming, old villages in Provence, nestled into the hillsides, in the shadow of their medieval castles. With narrow stone streets lined with bougainvillea, fountains, Romanesque chapels steeped in history, fields of olive trees and lavender bathed in sunlight, Grimaud, Fontaine and Saumane de Vaucluse, Isle sur la Sorgue, Menebres, Bonnieux and Gordes and don"t forget the city of Avignon, ranked as UNESCO world heritage. But don"t forget the Provence of the gourmand's delight " crystallised fruit, cheese truffles, tapenade, olive oil and honey all available at lively, bustling, fresh produce markets; Painters, writers, singers, journalists, actors, fashion models, just to name a few, all come to rest or seek inspiration in the Cote d"Azur.
From Pramousquier to Italy for more than a hundred kilometres, the coastline is lettered in gold : Sainte Maxime, Saint-Tropez, Fréjus, Cannes, Nice, Monaco, San Remo. So many famous names and playground for the stars. Bright sunshine during the day or lively nights : opera, classical music, jazz at Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, cinema, or the green baize of the famous casinos where you're sure to spot a few celebrities. But don"t forget Fayence, a little medieval village perched up in the Var hinterland which enjoys an exceptional situation between sea and mountains (altitude 350 m), and offers an invigorating air in a dry and temperate climate. Famous sites such as the Verdon Canyons, Grasse with the International perfume Museum and factories.
