Inside “La Bergerie” – more detailed:

La Bergerie was once a sheepfold and thanks to a lot of care and love, it has become a four person charming little cottage, having lost none of its original Périgourdin features.

The ground floor consists of a bright kitchen (equipped with a four ring hob, multifunction oven/microwave, dishwasher and all the necessary kitchenware). From here you cross the bunkroom, separated from the corridor by a curtain. Three steps then lead to the living area, complete with antique furniture, wood burning stove and satellite TV. This room opens onto the south facing terrace, a private suntrap which makes breakfasts pure moments of bliss.

On the first floor, an open mezzanine accommodates the double bedroom, and the separate bathroom and toilet. La Bergerie is part of the original buildings surrounding the courtyard; it offers views on the gardens, and the tennis court.

The Dordogne region

“The Dordogne département is for many people the picture-perfect image of the French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields, hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade-green woods. Named after the most important of the region’s seven rivers, the Dordogne is better-known to the French as Périgord, spiritual home to two of the country’s enduring culinary passions – foie gras and the black truffle. The Dordogne is famous for its stunning cave paintings, as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns – reminders of the bloody battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years’ War.” – Lonely Planet Guide

Here in Domaine de Cournet Haut, you will be ideally located to visit many of the stunning sites of the region.

• Sarlat 27km

• Castelnaud 16km

Saint Pompon

Domaine de Cournet-Haut is located 800m from Saint Pompon, a picturesque little village of 250 inhabitants which offers charming little backstreets to explore. It has a very good restaurant, two bars, a small supermarket, butcher, baker and pharmacy. It has a farmers market every Friday morning and guests can also enjoy the atmosphere and local cooked food of the night market every Saturday night during the summer months.

"Faultless, a fantastic place"

The owners are warm and welcoming, learning our childrens names, and making sure we wanted for nothing, the location is spectacular, we stayed in Le bergerie and the view was beautiful, and the kids had pool, trampoline and forests to keep them entertained, simply wonderful

"Perfect accommodation in peaceful, tranquil surroundings."

Domaine de Cournet-Haut is a perfect base for exploring this part of the Dordogne. The property is very well equipped & maintained, the owners have thought of just about everything. La Bergerie is beautifully & tastefully decorated & furnished, peaceful and quiet with beautiful gardens and grounds. Warm welcome from the friendly and generous owners who were happy to answer any queries and provide any local information we needed e.g.maps for local walks.
Excellent on site facilities e.g. covered parking, bicycle hire (road & mountain bikes), boules. Five minutes by car to well-stocked village supermarket. Trouble-free drive from Bergerac Airport. Close to Domme, La Roque
Gageac, Beynac & Sarlat. We loved our stay here, couldn't fault it in any way.

"AN IDYLLIC RETREAT"

The fact that we return year after year to Cournet Haut is testimony to its charm. The owners have created and nurtured an outstanding holiday destination that should answer the needs of the most demanding of guests.

The physical attractions are there in all their glory on the website but it is also the ambiance that entices us back and make us so reluctant to depart.

"A beautiful property in beautiful area topped off with amazing customer service"

Following a recommendation we booked a week at Domaine de Cournet Haut to catch up with friends and family during our European holiday. We were not disappointed. I have to say their website, although very good doesn't do the place justice. We stayed in the stone cottage 'La Bergerie' with family and friends scattered through three other cottages on the property.

You do need a car to fully experience the surrounding towns and villages. There is plenty to see and do within 30 minutes drive. Saying that St Pompon is a beautiful little village and only 10-15 minutes walk down the road from the property and has everything you could need if you want to stay close.

The hospitality we experienced was second to none. Nothing was to much trouble and we were made to feel right at home.
