Domaine de Cournet-Haut, which was once a 17th century hunting lodge, is today home to a peaceful and beautifully restored holiday residence. Set on 13 acres of gardens, lawns and bright mature forest, it provides the space and serenity for great family holidays and relaxing country breaks. There are a total of 8 houses to rent on the domain, but with a maximum capacity of 39 and the houses well spread apart, you will still enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. Domaine de Cournet-Haut has been family run for 35 years and we are always onsite to give recommendations and to make your visit to our area as enjoyable as possible.
Your house “La Forge”, which makes up part of an internal courtyard, is a mere stone’s throw from the swimming pool and its terrace overlooks the garden, tennis court and part of the swimming pool. The house received a complete and tasteful makeover in 2012 giving added comfort and light whilst retaining its original charm.

Inside “La Forge”
A former blacksmith’s workshop, La Forge was restored and modernized while retaining its original Périgourdin character. Inside, oak beams and ochre stones steal the show giving La Forge its coziness, which is also enhanced by the wooden stove that can be lit in the cooler season (central heating is also a feature).
On the ground floor, the open plan living area comprises the kitchen (equipped with an oven, four ring hob, dishwasher and all the necessary kitchenware), dining and sitting room with satellite TV, DVD and hifi, complete with antique furniture.
On the first floor, the double bedroom is separated from the quirky little French boudoir by a monumental beam and opens onto the terrace where you will enjoy memorable summer evening barbecues. A separate bathroom and toilet are facing each other in the small corridor leading to a second bedroom furnished with 3 single beds.

The Dordogne region
“The Dordogne département is for many people the picture-perfect image of the French countryside, a gentle landscape of patchwork fields, hilltop towns, turreted mansions and jade-green woods. Named after the most important of the region’s seven rivers, the Dordogne is better-known to the French as Périgord, spiritual home to two of the country’s enduring culinary passions – foie gras and the black truffle. The Dordogne is famous for its stunning cave paintings, as well as for its many fortified chateaux and bastide towns – reminders of the bloody battles waged here during the Middle Ages and the Hundred Years’ War.” – Lonely Planet Guide
Here in Domaine de Cournet Haut, you will be ideally located to visit many of the stunning sites of the region.

"Beautiful area, lovely accommodation and good hosts"
First visit to this area of France and would recommend it to families with children looking for historical places to visit combined with an extensive range of activities. The accommodation exceeded our expectations and was an easy drive from Bergerac Airport. Plenty of space for children to play in and a large safe swimming pool. Owners provided assistance if required and were happy to provide information on the local area and villages.

"Idyllic surroundings and fantastic hosts"
Cornet Haut is in a beautiful setting. The accommodation is very comfortable yet rustic. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. The grounds are absolutely stunning and extremely well maintained. The swimming pool is a good size with plenty of sun loungers and there are swings and a trampoline for keeping children entertained. The owners are delightful. We were very late arriving but it was not a problem. They were also very helpful providing us with ideas for trips out.

We booked domaine De Cournet-Haut on a friends recommendation but it completed surpassed all expectations. It truly is a 'picture postcard' holiday venue! Alan, Fanny, Emmanuel and Helene are fantastic hosts and they take great pride in their property.
The grounds are a haven for families with so many leisure/sporting facilities on site. Also, it's close proximity to fantastic castles and beautiful villages make it the perfect base for a holiday in the Dordogne.
We are really hoping that we can return again in 2014!!!

Our welcome to Cournet Haut could not have been warmer - despite it being midnight due to a delayed flight and lost luggage!
Helene, Emmanuael, Fanny and Alan were marvellous hosts throughout our stay - unobtrusive, yet on-hand as tour guides, shopping and market consultants and authoritive wine appreciation coaches!
Our accomodation - 'La Forge' - was charming, very comfortable and well equipped for a short stay. All in all, our week at Cournet Haut well exceeded our expectations and we intend to return - often!

"Cosy country hideaway with lovely hosts"
My partner and I and our 1 year old baby boy stayed here in October 2012. We stayed in Le Chene, a small cottage on one floor, which was perfect for our 1 year old to toddle around in. The cottage is in the middle of the woods around the 'domaine' so it feels really discreet and is lovely to look out from at breakfast (the front doors are completely glass so all you can see is countryside). It has a log fire with unlimited free logs, so it was really cosy at night to snuggle up to with a glass of local wine and some stinky cheese. The prices out of season are extremely reasonable too and it was still nicely warm in October (but take a raincoat too). The hosts speak english and couldnt do enough for us, very polite and helpful. There is a pool, tennis courts, and bikes all to use free of charge, and a DVD collection, so more than enough to do if you just want to chill out, but it is also in the middle of the Dordogne valley, stunning countryside with some charming medieval towns and hilltop chateux and caves nearby. I would not hesitate to return to Cournet Haut and in fact and missing it already!
Many thanks for your very nice comment, we are delighted you enjoyed your holiday with us! I just wanted to rectify my mistake: we sent you the wrong link, which means the note you left appears on the page of a different house on the Domaine, one you did not stay in ("La Forge" whereas you stayed in "Le Chêne"). I wanted to mention it as your description obviously does not correspond to that of "La Forge". It was just to avoid confusion...
Apoligies for this and thanks again for taking the time.
All the best!
