Malta, officially the Republic of Malta, is a small and densely populated (population 402k) island nation.It is located in the Mediterranean Sea in Southern Europe just 93 km (58 mi) south of Sicily, giving the country a warm, Mediterranean climate, and 288 km (179 mi) to its south is North Africa.The nation's capital city is the historic Valletta.
Throughout much of its history, Malta has been considered a crucial strategic location due in large part to its position in the Mediterranean Sea. It was held by several ancient cultures including Sicilians, Romans, Phoenicians, Byzantines and others. The island is commonly associated with the Knights of St. John who ruled it. This, along with the historic Biblical shipwreck of St. Paul on the island, ingrained the strong Roman Catholic legacy which is still the official and most practised religion in Malta today.
The country's official languages are Maltese and English, the latter a legacy from Malta's period as a British colony – the United Kingdom is the most recent outside ruling power. Malta gained independence in 1964 and is currently a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.
The Saint Paul's Bay / Bugibba area
Saint Paul's Bay is one of the numerous inlets of the island of Malta. It is a place of reference, and holds an ancient and interesting history, especially because this is the place where the shipwreck that brought St. Paul the Apostle of Christ to this island took place. It is after the Apostle of Gentiles the place is named. The village is situated about ten miles (sixteen kilometres) from Valletta, on the north coast of Malta.
The limits of St. Paul's Bay stretch along the coast from Salina to Mistra. Going inland the boundaries take us as far as Ghajn Rihana, Pwales, Tal-Imdawra, Manikata and San Martin, and as far as the cross roads at Ghajn Tuffieha which lead to Mgarr and Mosta. It incorporates also Wardija, Bugibba and Qawra and Burmarrad.
St. Paul's Bay is surrounded by valleys and hills. The land is all around is fertile. Burmarrad valley is renowned for its vegetables and grapes. Although the fields are small and terraced the diligent farmer toils his lands carefully and helped by nature's favour the product is aboundant.

""This flat is outstanding, likewise the service from the owner, Kevin, who was very helpful and welcoming and was responsive to any problems/questions etc. Communication was excellent right from the time of booking. The extremely helpful owners clearly aim to please and all taxi transfers were dealt with upon request. Upon arrival it was clear the pictures do not show just how big the flat is and it was immaculately clean. The facilities were excellent. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it as a fantastic place to stay. The flat is situated centrally between Qawra and Bugibba, so there are plenty of shops and good restaurants near by. There are also plenty of swimming pools on the sea front, which only cost a few Euros to enter, if you want a change from the small town beach. "
Ken thompson and family-"Stayed in this lovely apartment for 2 weeks during November 08. The apartment is very spacious with great views out to sea and the resort of Buggiba, and beyond. The fixtures and fittings are all to a very high standard with the added bonus of all the sports channels for the UK and Italian football fans out there! Both bedrooms are a good size with plenty of storage space, with the utility room and excellent kitchen making the stay very stress-free, especially if you have young children. The photos on the website give you a sense of the space and finish, but it is better when you see it for real. The apartment is about a 5 minute walk to the bus terminal, shops and lots of pubs and restaurants/cafes to choose from, and about 10 minutes walk to the beach with plenty to choose from whether eating or shopping. So, whilst everything is within easy reach, it is not 'on top of you' and it is particularly nice to spend the evening on the patio with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. Would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for self-catering accommodation in Malta, and the owner could not have been more helpfu
This is a really nice and spacious apartment and is decorated to a very high standard. There is two good sized double bedrooms both with lots of storage space. The kitchen is fully equipped and the utility room with the washing machine and dryer makes it easy to travel light. While the pictures on the website are good they do not really do justice to just how nice this place really is. From a location perspective this apartment is in a quiet area yet is well located with a small local shop where all necessities are available just around the corner and the supermarket is less than 5 minutes walk away. There is also quite a few nice restaurants and bars within easy walking distance and the bus terminal is only a short walk away and from here you can avail of a bus service right across the island. The promenade that stretches for miles is also just 5 mins. away. The owner Kevin and his wife Vanessa are very friendly and helpful and were available by phone right throughout our stay to answer any questions or queries. I would highly recommend this apartment and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
