The Island of Malta region
Malta, officially the Republic of Malta comprising the islands of Malta, Gozo, Comino is situated 96 km to the south of Sicily. Malta has about 420.000 inhabitants and the Euro is the official Currency since the entry in the European Union and driving is on the left like in the Uk. The Maltese islands are one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean, mainly for it all year round stable weather with just a couple of months of winter which rarely go below 10 degrees, rich history, it's safe environment therefore ideal for holiday makers of all ages, friendly and helpful people and a bustling business sector which attract workers and students/internships from around Europe for summer jobs or just to improve their English. The official language is Maltese with English as a second and widely spoken language, and also Italian is quite common language especially in the St Julian's area.
For its very small size the Islands of Malta are a little jewel in the Mediterranean with lots to offer for everyone.
Malta is blessed with some 300 days of sun in a year and little rain around 568 mm per year, and wind mainly in the winter/ spring season ( December to March ) which have shaped this unique landscape through the millennia. Summer temperatures can reach 40 degree Celsius in July and August with high humidity, about 90 % in September. This stable climate offers beach lovers the opportunity to swim almost all year round, except for the occasional storm which gives the Island the desperately needed fresh water.
The Islands of Malta are very rich in history dating back to almost 7000 years, from the prehistoric temples with their megalithic rocks and intricately sculptured goddesses, the Knights of St John who left a massive architectural heritage like Valletta, Mdina and the Citadella, to the more recent English Empire which clearly is still felt in the present days in the language, customs and laws.
Both Malta and Gozo are dotted with beautiful churches such as the St John's Cathedral and The Basilica of Ta' Pinu in Gozo, and some other 300 churches and chapels all over the islands, ancient temples and numerous museums which open a window into our past and the present development of Malta. After being an English colony and playing a role in the Second World War, Malta gained its independence on 21 September 1964 and became a republic in 1974, and since then it has gained ground as a strategic business hub in the Mediterranean.
There are many interesting museums around the island that illustrate our history and heritage and a definite destination for history buffs.
Places of interest and Activities
The list is infinite, on the islands there is something for everyone, Sun lovers have a choice of very well served and clear blue waters beaches especially in the north west and north east side of Malta, such as Blue Lagoon in Comino, San Blas and Ramla Il-Hamra in Gozo and Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha in Malta, although there aren't many sandy beaches and in the peak season and it can be very crowded they offer a break from the summer heat, and also the rest of the rocky coast is suitable for swimming. The seaside offers lots of entertainment from scuba diving where you can explore deep sea caves and relics, to watersports and lounge terraces to relax by the sea. Inland one can save time especially if it is a short visit by using sightseeing buses which cover most of the best spots.
The capital city Valletta and Rabat in Gozo and Mdina which offer an insight into our heritage and history, by visiting the many museums, fascinating architecture and breathtaking harbor views, one great experience is at the Malta 5D cinema. Apart from the main cities are the many temple and archeological sites scattered on the island. Religious feasts are celebrates mainly between May and September, displaying spectacular and colorful fireworks shows, and traditional folklore.
When it comes to entertainment Paceville, St Julian's and Sliema are the places to be in, with it cosmopolitans feel and upbeat scene. Paceville being the most popular nightspot of Malta, dotted with many clubs, bars, casinos and restaurants, for sure one will find something for every taste especially youngsters in the weekend. Malta has four casino's accessible only for clients over 18 years old.
Sliema is the commercial seaside town with it shopping malls, fashion outlets and modern café's.
Other places to visit are the National aquarium in Qawra where one can watch the amazing underwater life. The Three Cities, Marsaxlokk the picturesque fishing village and Popeye Village an amazing place for kids.

Bedsettee broken my grandson had to sleep on the floor,no microwave or toaster as stated in the ad,tin opener unusable because of engrained food and rust, bbq was thick with food and grease again could… More
I would to express my sincere apologies with regards to your apparent disappointment concerning my apartment. As you could clearly see, I have invested a lot in the apartment and last year I had it totally refurbished to a sufficient standard in order to offer my clients a high standard of accommodation during their stay (12 nights)
I believe that this was a genuine matter, mainly due to lack of communication. Unfortunately, none of us was contacted during your stay despite the fact that you had our mobile numbers (3) and an email address. Hence, we were completely unaware of any of the mentioned issues. A real pity, because I can assure you that matters would have been resolved swiftly. Honestly, I would have been more than happy to bring you over a toaster and microwave (bought and placed in the apartment). Moreover, all other matters being the cleaning of the BBQ, tin opener and bed-settee fault could have been quickly and easily rectified should I had been given the opportunity to do so (cleaning company was notified with regards to your complaint). Regarding the cat issue, unfortunately there is very little I can do, as I am unable to control the neighbours' pet from the entering my terrace from one of the adjacent gardens.
I once again wish to express my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and I would like to inform you that I have taken note of all your constructive criticism. Last but not least I would be more than happy to offer you a 2 night complimentary stay should you choose to visit Malta again in the future. Sincerely, Denise
