The Island of Malta region

The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the centre of the Mediterranean, with Malta 93km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa. It consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of 400,000 inhabitants over an area of 316sq km and a coastline of 196.8km.
Malta is the largest island and the cultural, commercial and administrative centre. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterised by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture while Comino is largely uninhabited.
With superbly sunny weather, expansive beaches, a thriving nightlife and 7,000 years of intriguing history, there is a great deal to see and do. With a little help from any guidebook, captivating places of interest are immediately identified – the world famous Hypogeum selected as a place of World Heritage by UNESCO, prehistoric temples and grand palaces are but a few - www.visitmalta.com
The rural side of the Islands is fascinating, with charming villages & captivating folklore. With 365 spectacular churches, there are more than a few highlights - the Mosta church famous for its large dome (third largest dome in Europe).
The Islands must be visited at festa time for an insight into local life with all its colour and passions. Feast at St Paul's Bay is celebrated on the last Sunday of July.
St Paul's Bay and its neighbours Bugibba and Qawra are Malta's largest, seaside resorts. They offer a variety of nightlife and leisure options. The coastline here has some wonderful open sea views and a vista across to St Paul's Island, where, according to legend, the ship carrying the Apostle is said to have been wrecked. The coastline promenade provides a long, though mostly level and easy walk from St Paul's Bay all the way to Qawra or Xemxija Bay. St Paul's Bay started life as a small fishing village. The parish church, built in 1617, was carefully restored after suffering heavy damage in World War II.
The Saint Paul's Bay / Xemxija area
Xemxija is a town on the west side of St. Paul's Bay, Malta. Xemxija (meaning sunny) is the gateway to the sandy beaches of Golden Bay to the west, and to Mellieha Bay to the north. Xemxija is a quiet resort, surrounded by Maltese countryside and some of the most fertile valleys in Malta.
By walk one can find a picturesque small fishing harbour, Hotels, Restaurants, wine bar, Pubs and Mini-Market opened 7 days a week. Nightlife, shops, cinema, casino and bars can be found in the villages of St Paul's Bay, Buġibba and Qawra, all within 5 minutes drive or by bus.
This resort is surrounded by nature, picturesque countrysides, history and traditions.
Located just a few meters from the apartment is the Xemxija Heritage Trail. A walk along this trail whilst enjoying the magnificent country side, one can see the remains of thousands of years of history that the Islands of Malta have.
A Bird Sanctuary can also be found in Xemxija.

The apartment only had heating by air conditioners with did not work and a gas heater which was pretty in-effective and left the property very damp and cold. The Jacuzzi was an inflatable model, which was not fully inflated, and the covers were full of water so it had not been prepared for the rental. We paid the full week price despite only booking for 3 nights, and in the end we left after 2 nights due to the cold and damp. The indoor seating arrangement is not really suitable for a group of 4, not to mention the 6 that the apartment claims to be able to cater for. Response: Your feedback is surprising and it is appropriate that we respond accordingly. The apartment has double glazed doors and is equipped with 3 fully functional (cooling and heating) air-conditioners, more than enough to provide heating requirement for the apartment. We also provide a portable gas heater for additional comfort. We regularly rent this penthouse apartment during the winter months and never had any complaints. Unfortunately it rained just before your arrival, and it is quite natural that some water traps on the spa lid. The spa is regularly maintained and spa water is very well treated all year round. The kitchen is equipped for more than 6 persons and both dining tables, inside and outside in the terrace, take 6 chairs comfortably. We would have preferred to have been approached with any problems encountered during the stay and given the opportunity to help. |

From the moment we booked, Andy and Claire were really helpful, friendly and relaxed. The apartment was well furnished, clean and the welcome food pack was very welcome! (I'd say a bottle of wine would have been a nice addition because we got there quite late, but I feel a bit mean saying it because everything else had been thought of.) We didn't need to contact the owners at all during our stay, but I would have felt very comfortable if we'd had to. We found the immediate area a bit soulless, but it was peaceful and once in the apartment, it didn't matter anyway. The front balcony was great and we sat and watched a spectacular sunset with a glass of wine - perfect! I would certainly recommend this apartment; we were happy to spend a couple of evenings not going out and the apartment was welcoming and comfortable enough to make that a pleasure - that can't be said of all holiday lets. |

Booking of the apartment was very easy and straight forward and the owners Andy & Claire were very helpful from the start til the end! The apartment was very spacious, with one small balcony on one side of the property and a massive terrace on the other side where we spent most of our time sunbathing and relaxing in the jacuzzi spa. It is located in a nice quiet area, very peaceful overlooking Mistra Valley. The interior of the apartment was immaculate, very clean and tidy, kitchen offering the basic amenities that you would need for basic cooking. It was a very nice touch of the owners to provide you with some food essentials on arrival like bread, milk, butter, tea, coffee and some cooking condiments. There was even a small collection of DVDs available and also plenty of tourist information leaflets to help you plan your stay in Malta. The only negative we found was the exterior of the apartment, the walls were a bit run down and chipped, they could do with a new BBQ as the one there was a bit rusty and the canopes/ awnings that were supposed to be there were broken and not usable so there was no way of getting some shade on the terrace as the sun was shining all day long on that side. This didn't really bother us because we wanted to sunbathe and the rest of the apartment was good and the owners were very helpful throughout our stay we cant really fault anything else! |
Guestbook for Spring Valley
We had a great time at the apartment in Xemxija where everything is laid on for the perfect holiday. Andy and Claire are thoughtful and extremely helpful hosts who have prepared the holiday home to have everything that you may need. The fixtures and fittings are top quality and all parts of the apartment are tastefully decorated. The main deck is a delight, with views over woods and beyond. The other deck has views of the Sulman Palace, St Paul's Bay and beyond. It is perfectly situated to explore Malta and the ferry to Gozo is only a few minutes drive. There a number of beaches within easy reach, we went to Golden Bay and enjoyed it immensely.
There are a number of good restaurants nearby, but the apartment is in a quiet area away from the bustle of St Paul's Bay. We would recommend Porto del Sol, where the food and service were excellent..
All in all we had a great week in Xemxjia and would love to go back at some point. We would recommend the apartment as a great base to explore - or just sit and relax with a book and a bottle of CISK LAGER BEER :))

Everything about this holiday exceeded our expectations especially the apartment. We had a lot of luggage so Andy kindly offered to collect us from the airport and arranged car hire so all we had to do was turn up!
The neighbours downstairs were really friendly and everyone made us feel welcome. The views from the apartment are fantastic and the main terrace is not over looked at all so you have some real seclusion. The beds are comfy the rooms are attractive.
Parking outside the apartment is no problem.
We will defiantly return to this apartment and from us that is a huge compliment as we are not the type of people who go to the same place year after year.

We enjoyed our stay in Malta very much. The spacious apartment is comfortable for two families, pleasant, and with all the necessary equipment. It is located in a nice quiet neighborhood on the edge of Xemxia. Parking the rented cars was never a problem. Xemxia proved to be an excellent starting point for exploring Malta and Gozo and for quick access to the Golden Bay.
The spectacular view of the Malta countryside from the nice and spacious terrace with shading is marvelous. The children were particularly enthusiastic about Jacuzzi on it.
The owners were very helpful, willing to please all our wishes and needs as we had 2 toddlers with us. They also helped us with reasonable priced car rental and with luggage transfer from and to the airport.
The apartment completely fulfilled our expectations and if we come to Malta again we will definitely use the same apartment again.

We had a great time thanks, and really enjoyed your apartment. We had a look at most of the island, and really feel that yours is the best location, especially as we like peace and quiet, good restaurants and walking. For future info, Marsovin wines are genuinely good, and the Indian resteraunt, Gnesha, is one of the best we’ve eaten in. All the local ones were good, except the Chinese!!
Hope you have a good summer. Thanks again for the lovely apartment.
