The Island of Malta region
A Holiday in Malta is like stepping back in time, there are several world heritage sights that are the oldest known human structures in the world. It is not only the people and the history but also the architecture which gives Malta its appeal. Malta has a superb climate, the sun shines almost all year round, with temperatures reaching above 30 degrees in summer and hardly ever falling below 15 degrees in winter!
Beautiful scenery and a stunning contrast of colours – azure blue seas, honey coloured limestone farmhouses and clear skies. The clarity of the sea also makes Malta one of the world’s most popular diving locations. Plenty of wrecks to explore and some varied marine life.
Malta offers a range of beautiful beaches to suit all tastes... Whether you are in the mood for a relaxing sunbathing session or in a more sporty, active mood, there is a suitable beach for you! Choose from golden sand, red sand, rocks, blue lagoons and even inland seas...
There are plenty of easily accessible beaches for families, rocky inlets ideal for snorkellers and beach sunsets for twilight swimmers. Most beaches are easily reached by bus and a short walk. Some beaches and rocky shores are slightly harder to reach, but worth seeking out for their seclusion and unspoilt surroundings!
Cafes, fruit stalls or snack bars are abundant on larger beaches during the summer season. With Malta’s climate, beach life lasts well into October. Enjoy water sports and activities like windsurfing, jet and water skiing, para-kiting and fun rides. You can hire equipment from beach cafes or shops nearby.
Here's a list of some of the beautiful beaches around the islands:
> Anchor Bay
> Ghajn Tuffieha
> Golden Bay
> Ghadira, Mellieha
> Paradise Bay
> St Paul's Bay
> Mistra Bay
Temples that pre-date Stonehenge. A wealth of cultural and historical treats. An interesting history as a result of various invasions throughout the centuries from colonisers. Glorious limestone architecture and beautiful churches.
No language barriers – English and Italian are widely spoken throughout the island.
Low crime rate - One important factor about Malta is that the island is a very safe place to be, its crime rate is one of the lowest in Europe. Flying to Malta is also easy and safe to do.
Enchanting and intimate. - Malta is the largest of the 3 islands – Malta – Gozo – Comino, that constitute the archipelago, it is 122 sq miles, and is an independent country yet because of its size, it remains enchanting and intimate. The best way to get round the island is definitely by car, although the local bus rides are just as good and cheap.
Choosing Malta for your holiday will really leave you with the taste for more, the way of life is very Mediterranean and you will find yourself caught up in its seductive grip. With a wide variety of tours you will be able to get a good insight into the history.
The ease of daily life is reflected in the expressive faces and relaxed nature of the locals. They are friendly and hospitable and hold a certain charm about them.
Saint Paul's Bay
Malta’s small size is an advantage as most sites are within a relatively small distance. Xemxija is to the north of the island and perfectly placed to reach almost all attractions within a maximum of 60 minutes. Different things apply to different people, tastes and lifestyles so not all of the things listed might apply to everyone. Nonetheless, try and enrich your malta holiday by pursuing some of the items on the list! There are alot of things to do in Malta. Enjoy your holiday in Malta!
Splash & Fun Park at Bahar ic-Caghaq
This is very popular with families with kids and most kids can’t seem to ever get enough of it. There’s water-slides, playgrounds, sun lounges, restaurant, etc and should be a fun day for the whole family. The complex also has the largest wave pool in Europe.
For more info, visit their website at http://www.splashandfun.com.mt
Mediterraneo Marine Park at Bahar ic-Caghaq
Adjacent to the Splash & Fun Park is the Mediterraneo Marine Park where they have dolphin, sea-lions shows, etc. You can get a combined ticket to go to both parks. You can also swim with dolphins here (under supervision). Minimum age for a dolphin swim is 8 years old.

Sweethaven (also known as Popeye Village) at Anchor Bay
This is a family targeted attraction, with animation shows, puppets, small fun park and play pool.
It was originally the set for the musical Popeye, starring Robin Williams. Adults may find this place a bit too cheesy but usually kids enjoy it. Have a look at their website at http://www.popeyemalta.com and then decide whether your kids will enjoy it here.
Malta Experience at Valletta
This is an audiovisual show (45 minutes long) that kids usually enjoy. It’s actually recommended that you start out your holiday with this show, because it serves as a good introduction to Malta. This show has had very good reviews from adults and kids alike.

Mdina Dungeons at Mdina
The dungeons re-create various acts of torture that occurred in Malta over the ages. Strangely enough, a lot of kids usually enjoy their visit to the Mdina Dungeons. This is not however the ideal museum if your kids are too easily frightened.

Blue Grotto Boat Trip at Wied iz-Zurrieq
The trips (15 minutes long) go to the seven caves and the colour of the sea within the caves is breathtaking to say the least. This is a very popular site so the constant boat-traffic ruins the atmosphere a bit. To get to the location where the boat trips are, take Bus #38 or #138 from Valletta. Trips are done daily from 9.00am to 5.00pm and cost Euro 7.00.
Boat trips from Sliema
At the Ferries in Sliema, where most of the cruises depart from, you can find many operators that offer two hour cruises (or longer) to Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour.
These safaris explore the more remote parts of Malta and Gozo and are something that most kids enjoy.
Horse-riding at Golden Bay
Golden Bay Horse Riding offer one or two hour rides on fields overlooking the beaches. Rides start from 8.00am till 8.0pm (Telephone No: 2157 3360). Booking in advance is preferred.
Day trip to Gozo
Gozo is such a beautiful island that it would be a pity if you left Malta without visiting. The ferry boat ride in itself is an “adventure” to most kids. Gozo island has a distinct character and is much quieter than Malta. It has many charming attractions, not to mention some fantastic beaches. A definite must see during your Malta vacations!
Day trip to Comino island
This is a very popular trip. The Blue Lagoon is simply magical and the island offers an enjoyable day for all.
