Further details indoors

The gite is extremely comfortable and well appointed and offers views across the valley to the mountains. The thick stone walls keep the gite warm in winter months whilst providing protection against the heat in the summer months.

Further details outdoors

L'Ecurie is situated on the edge of the village and there is parking immediately outside the property. There are stone steps that lead up to the front gate and onto the bottom stone-flagged terrace, which is planted with shrubs. A further few steps lead to the upper terrace which is wood decking and also has flowers and shrubs. Both of these terraces are ideal for sunbathing and eating al fresco at lunch and in the warm summer evenings.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Pyrenees Orientales has a very temperate climate. During the summer months temperatures are often in the mid thirties, with balmy evenings. The whole region remains very unspoilt, yet offers a wealth of things to do and see, most notably The Gorges de Galamus and the Cathar castles of Peyreperteuse, Queribus and Puilerens.

The area is famous for some fine examples of Roman architecture such as the aqueduct at Ansignan, the abbey at Serrabonne and the thermal baths at Rennes le Bains where you can bathe all year round. Perpignan, the very Catalan capital of the region, is an hour's drive and the beautiful medieval walled city of Carcasonne l hour and 20 minutes. The Languedoc Rousillon is now the largest wine growing region of France and there are numerous vineyards offering the opportunity to taste the many wonderful varieties of wine on offer.

Saint Paul de Fenouillet

Vira is a small village set in the foothills of the Pyrenees. All around is stunning countryside which you can step out into from the front door of the gite without having to get into a car. The village is totally unspoilt and is on the edge of the Foret de Boucheville. In the spring and summer months there are beautiful wild flowers, rare orchids and butterflies and in the autumn everywhere has a golden hue.

The village itself has a lovely old church, a marie and a plan-d'eau. Villagers and very friendly and welcoming. Fifteen minutes from Vira is Caudies de Fenouilleds which has a mini supermarket, a butcher and a baker. Here there is also a cafe and a restaurant. In the neighbouring village of Fosse (2 minute drive) there is a lovely open air swimming pool which is free to visitors and is open in July and August.
