The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region

The rivers Lot, Garonne, Dordogne and Baise, the Canal du Midi and many lakes are close by for fishing, walking, boating and canoeing. It is only 2kms to the nearest lake ‘Lac du Saut du Loup’, 25 acres in size which is beautiful for walks and cycling. In July and August it has organised activities and includes its own restaurant which is open all year.

The area is steeped in history with many heritage sights, from paleolithic caves and medieval castles to traditional tucked-away villages, each has it’s own special fête day. An enjoyable experience can be discovered in the weekly local farmers markets in many of the regions towns, where produce can be bought direct. From May to October many towns and villages come alive with special events such as music, theatre, dance and song. In July the nearby bastide town of Miramont-de-Guyenne has an international festival of street art, ‘BASTID’art’.

Around Saint Pardoux-Isaac are the castles of Lauzun, Duras, Eymet, Biron and Bonaguil. The wine cellars of Duras, Monbazillac, Buzet, Cocumont, Beaupuy. The fortified medieval towns of Eymet, Villereal, Monflanquin, Monpazier and Vianne. Of course there are many good restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine.

Nearby the tourist offices in Miramont-de-Guyenne and Eymet have plenty of information on events and places to visit.

Guestbook for La Cayre

La Cayre is perfectly positioned and a lovely place to stay in such a beautiful part of France. Made such lovely new friends as Tom and Angela and have been welcomed to their home. Trips not to be missed, Duras and a boat trip on the Dordogne.
Will be back again...roll on retirement!
Mr & Mrs P. Lancs.

Had a wonderful time in La Cayre. There are so many things to see, so many castles that one month would not be enough! The Pyla dune is absolutely fantastic!
La Cayre is a quiet and beautiful place, Tom and Angela made us feel as we were at home.
Thanks once again.
Mr & Mrs N. Poland

This is indeed a wonderful base to explore the treasures of Lot et Garonne and the Dordogne. Walk the lovely country lanes and finish the day with a dip in the pool.
Thanks, good health and good luck to Tom and Angela.
Mr & Mrs M. N. Ireland

We have enjoyed a very peaceful holiday exploring the surrounding unspoilt countryside on our bikes. I took over 300 photos, the wildlife was incredible, eagles, red squirrels, jays and woodpeckers but not easy to photograph despite their abundance.
Thanks very much Tom and Angela you were good company and great hosts. We hope to return one day for some more Reisling!
Mr & Mrs B. Warks.

La Cayre is in the perfect location for exploring. Bergerac was beautiful, Sarlat which was even more spectacular. Enjoyed a lovely evening in Eymet during the Medieval Festival.
Travelled south to Agen and Nerac was lovely, also Duras.
Thank you Tom and Angela for a lovely few days.
Mr & Mrs S. Essex

Spent 2 brilliant weeks exploring the region by bike and car. Tom and Angela were very friendly and helpful.
Things worth doing are the sand dune near Bordeaux, Duras Chateau and canoeing on the Dordogne.
Mr & Mrs L. Kent

Many thanks for sharing your home with us, we had a really enjoyable and peaceful holiday. We got out and about and have visited most places and took a train ride to Bordeaux.
B & J. Kent

We had a great week in La Cayre
and met Tom and Angela there
A tranquil French heaven
Twenty four seven
No wonder they left Angleterre!

La Cayre is quite truly a gem
The absolute crème de la crème
So raise your glass high
Let the world pass you by
Everythings 'pas de problème'!
Mr & Mrs H, Kent

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, you have made us feel so very welcome. Thanks once again.
Mr & Mrs G, Norfolk

We have had a truly wonderful week. The weather was kind to us and the pool is absolutely superb. We look forward to returning to this area again, this time for at least two weeks to do the area justice.
Mr & Mrs E, N.E.Lincs.

We have spent an excellent and relaxing week in the comfort and beautiful surroundings of La Cayre. There are excellent cafés and restaurants nearby. Above all we have enjoyed the kindness and hospitality of Angela and Tom.
Mr & Mrs S, Hants.

Excellent base within easy reach of Eymet, Bergerac, Duras, Issigeac and more. We had two glorious weeks of sunshine, peace and total relaxation. The swimming pool has been a life saver on the very hot days.
No doubt we will return. Thank you for letting us share your beautiful home.
Mr & Mrs O, Merseyside

We had a lovely week, Tom and Angela have been extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly. Their attention to detail made us feel very welcome. The surrounding area is gorgeous, picturesque 'bastide' towns and chateaux among sunflowers and vineyards. We particularly enjoyed canoeing along the quiet Dordogne river and clambering over the highest sand dune in Europe near Arcachon.
L & R, London

Well what can we say that hasn't already been said! Good weather, good hosts made a great holiday!
Mr & Mrs F, W.Yorks.
