Further details indoors

Our detached guesthouse is ideal both for a romantic getaway for couples, a small family of three or for friends or siblings. It has been recently renovated in authentic Norman style with modern conveniences. Our village, was named after Mont St Michel by the ancient pilgrims who stayed in the church here en route there, as they could see the magnificent sanctuary rising from the bay in the distance. The viewing point with its old granite features is just opposite the church, and the village also features a granite museum depicting the ancient art of harvesting granite from the local area, much as it still is today. The quaint village shop and bar, both just 300 metres from your cottage is open until 8 pm most days, for morning croissants, baguettes, fresh fruits and vegetables, and wine beer and cider respectively.

Further details outdoors

Our quaint cottage, a converted pressoir, features its own small private garden with parking, barbeque, and garden furniture, bordered by a long drive, with large picturesque gardens, featuring two ponds, and a waterfall, with the main house just opposite.

Further details

We offer three sleeping options in the one bedroom cottage, which features a double bed. Alternatively, the family room option offers a double with one single bed. . Alternatively, a third person can be accommodated on a single bed in the lounge. We have used all of these options at various times, all very comfortably. The gite accommodates up to three individuals.

The Normandy region

From our village, which is the second highest in Normandy, are distant views of Mont St Michel, the second most popular visitor site in France, (after the Eiffel Tower) and is just an hour´s drive. The famous Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Norman conquest is about 85 kilometres. Just a few of the many attractions a short drive away are William the Conqueror´s birthplace of Falaise, and the magnificent walled city of Fougeres and chateau, and DD landing beaches . The popular Chaussey Islands, historic Avranches with Patton Place, Villedieu les Poeles with its renowned copper foundry are under an hour from here. Surrounded by picturesque rolling countryside, quaint French villages and the natural beauty of St. Sever Forest, our guest cottage is ideally placed for all ages and interests. This is our first year with Holiday Lettings.

Saint Michel de Montjoie

Our detached guesthouse is ideal both for a romantic getaway for couples, a small family of three or for friends or siblings. It has been recently renovated in authentic Norman style with modern conveniences. Our village of St Michel de Montjoie was named after Mont St Michel by the ancient pilgrims who stayed in the abby here en route there, as they could see the magnificent sanctuary rising from the bay in the distance. The viewing point with ancient granite features is just opposite the church, and the village also features a granite museum depicting granite being harvested from the local area, much as it still is today. The quaint village shop, just 300 metres from your cottage is open until 8 pm most days, except Sundays, for morning croissants, baguettes, fresh fruits and vegetables, wine and cidar.

"Charming gite in the charming village of St Michel de Montjoie"

We were just looking for a reasonably priced stop off point during our French road trip but the owners were so welcoming, helpful and friendly (we even had a drink with them in their lovely garden by the pond!) that we'll definitely be going back!

This is the perfect place to get away from the stress of city life- quiet surroundings, beautiful scenery, but also lots of lovely quaint French towns and villages nearby to visit in addition to the usual jaunts of Bayeaux and the magical Mont St Michel.

"Stunning location and so relaxing!"

I stayed in Le Pressoir with my hubby for a week in April. We needed a few days of relaxation after a stressful time at work and that's exactly what we got. The owners were a lovely welcoming couple who made us feel at ease. The location is beautiful and so French! There is a local boulangerie a short walk away, a cute little bar and lots of lovely walks. We visited Ville dieu which is a lovely town about 20 minutes away and the gorgeous mont st Michel. We will definitely be going back!

"Beautiful gite in rural village location"

Beautiful rustic gite in a peaceful location. Lovely views over fields from kitchen window and small veranda. Small kitchen, but had all the essentials - hob, oven, microwave, washing machine etc. . WiFi and Freeview TV available. Owners live in a nearby house - very friendly and helpful but not pushy. Not a huge amount to do locally (nearest beach about an hours drive) but a great relaxing getaway. We've not rented a gite before so nothing to compare it to, but definitely enjoyed our stay and seemed very good value.

It was lovely meeting you, so glad you enjoyed your week here en route back home to the UK from the south of France. We´d love to have you again if you ever stop in the Normandy area again during your travels.

"Charming tranquility"

I was delighted to find La Chardiniere after scouring the net to find the perfect place in the French countryside to write my thesis. I was after peace and quiet, beautiful views and some authentic Norman charm and La Chardiniere has that in spades. I have been here for 6 weeks and found that the gite is secluded enough to give me the peace and quiet to work with views of the cows grazing on the fields in the sunshine from my own private deck, yet close enough to local towns and villages for sociable breaks. The gite itself is situated in lovely grounds and I have been free to sit out and enjoy the sunshine in the gazebo overlooking the ponds. The local trails are perfect for walks, the occasional run and regular blackberry picking and there are plenty of interesting sights in the area to make a trip to St Michel de Montjoie and the environs a great break away in Normandy. My hosts have been extremely helpful in getting me settled and making sure I have everything I need. I thoroughly recommend the gite. 5 stars!

We really enjoyed having you with us, so pleased you found our peaceful setting a good environment in which both to escape and write and to and explore. We strive for a balance between tranquility and easy access to both the countryside and the renowned Normandie attractions. We hope to see you again soon.

"Beautiful location and lovely gite"

The gite has a lot of character and is set in the most beautiful gardens - a lovely atmosphere to stay in with a beautiful view over fields. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful.

It is pleasure to have such wonderful guests, who come from a wide variety of places to experience the rich landscape and history of Normandie. To date we have welcomed people from England, Wales, Canada, Spain, France, and the United States, and we look forward to meeting many more from around the globe. Thank you to all our guests for your kind comments.
