The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region

This part of the Languedoc has a sunny, Mediterranean climate. It can be hot in summer, but the temperature is often tempered by a breeze. Now the 3rd most visited region in France by British people, the Languedoc offers something for everyone. Miles of long, sandy beaches, coastal lagoons, vibrant cities such as Narbonne and Montpellier, historical sites such as Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, fabulous scenery, great cuisine and vineyards everywhere.
The Saint Laurent de la Cabrerisse area
The Jardins de Saint-Benoit vineyard resort and spa is open all year round except for January. There's lot to enjoy here e.g. a large outdoor pool and children's pool, children's playground, medieval gardens, swimming in the local river, a vineyard and olive grove, and of course the fabulous spa (for over 16's only) which has its own gorgeous indoor pool, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and treatment rooms.
In the height of the summer, July and August, there's a variety of additional events including a weekly artisans' market, a paella night in the square, mountain bike rental, wine-tastings, a Kids' club (from 4-12 years), and a Teens club (from 13 to 18 years).
In St Laurent de la Cabrerisse there's a boulangerie, a small grocery shop and a lively local bar. It's just a 10 minute drive to the lovely, ancient town of Lagrasse with individual shops, restaurants and a beautiful abbey. A 20-minute drive will bring you to Lezignan Corbieres, a larger town with all facilities including banks, pharmacies, a wide variety of shops and larger supermarkets. The lovely town of Narbonne lies just 30 minutes away with it's pleasant squares, nice shopping centre, lovely indoor food market and good restaurants.
Activities: as well as the many offered on site at this village resort, your can enjoy swimming in local lakes and also from the Mediteranean beaches where you will find a variety of water sports on offer. The immediate area lends itself to walking and mountain-biking.
Sightseeing: We recommend the following days out: Lagrasse and its abbey, Fontfroide Abbey, a boat trip on the Canal du Midi, the attractive town of Narbonne with its narrow streets, canal and interesting cathedral, a day or perhaps two at different beaches - approx. 40 minutes drive, and a visit to Carcassonne - a must see in this area. Perhaps also a visit to one of the Cathar castles, the African Nature Reserve at Sigean, a trip to Colloiure (a very beautiful spot) and the Cote Vermeille, and finally a day trip to Spain, easily do-able as the border is only 90 minutes drive away.
Markets: The markets in the region of full of fresh colourful produce and sell a variety of things in addition to food e.g. basket ware, leather ware, local wines and aperitifs, herbs and spices, flowers, bric a brac etc. The nearest market is in Lezignan Corbieres on a Wednesday morning.
Restaurants: As well as the restaurant on site, there are several in Lagrasse and also a Michelin star restaurant in the local area.
Supermarkets: There's a small grocery shop in the village. The nearest larger supermarkets are in Lezignan.
