Le Lion d'Or
from £38 /night help
Townhouse | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Once upon a time, this was the village hotel, Le Lion d'Or. Now half of it has been comfortably converted into a typical French house, in the middle of the thriving village of Saint Laurent de Ceris, in the North Charente.
Downstairs it has an open plan sitting room and kitchen/diner adequately equipped for 4 people. It accesses directly onto a large sunny terrace for al fresco summer dining. Upstairs you will find a double bedroom with dressing area and a large twin bedroom. There is a shared shower room upstairs with WC, and separate WC on the ground floor.
You will find all your immediate needs catered for, within the village, as the boulangerie is within sight of the house, and the village cafe/restaurant a step or so further down the road. In the opposite direction you will find the hairdressers and florist. There is even a village supermarket if you want to relax completely and not leave the village at all during your stay. Or maybe you'd like to find a quiet corner of the garden, under the shade of one of the cherry trees to read or paint.
You will find plenty to do, in and around the village - daily sporting activities to occupy the kids, fishing and cycling for parents. Picturesque villages with restaurants serving fresh local produce. Local history stretches from the Resistance to the Romans.
For a taste of the real French village life, please call in advance to reserve your place for one of our numerous village meals or cultural events that take place particularly over the summer period. If you are a fan of the accordion, you will find that the village hosts the festival every July.

There's plenty to see and do around here for young and old alike.
For those of you who like the water, we're about two hours from the seaside at Royan. Closer to home the lakes of the Haute Charente or the "beaches" at Roumazieres and Angouleme, or take a tour on a boat at the Venise Verte of the Marais Poitevin.
If history is your thing, visit La Rochefoucauld or the roman ruins at Chassenon, or the reconstructed village of the Gauls at Esse. There are plenty of opportunities to taste wine or the local pineau , or how about visiting Cognac for a tour of the cellars of the famous houses.
We're about one and a half hours away from Poitiers for Futuroscope, If you like to haggle, come to one of our many brocantes held throughout the region on Sunday mornings. For lovers of fine porcelain, you may wish to visit the shops of Limoges, or one of the many factory outlets offering bargains of its famous white pottery. There are many outdoor music festivals held particularly throughout the summer months, not to be missed is the Summer Folk Festival in Confolens.
