Visit Gascony, Franc's best kept secret, known as the Tuscany of France! The Lake Cottage is a great place to enjoy every part of what Gascony has to offer! Located on 10 acres of forest, lawns and gardens, The Lake Cottage offers privacy, tranquility, and spectacular views of the lake and surrounding countryside. Here is an idea about the interior: The bedrooms are spacious, with comfortable beds, wood floors and furnished with local brocante finds-for a french-chic look! The downstairs has a fully equipped kitchen, large farmers dining table, and big cozy couch with flatscreen tv, hi fi with iPod/IPhone connection and library of books, DVD's, CD's, and games for your indoor entertainment. Large "barn" windows throughout the cottage let the sun shine in, and provides incredible views of the lake, and surrounding lawns and forest. A large covered terrace with a dining table and BBQ provide all that you need to enjoy the tranquil settings. Outside you can enjoy exploring the forest, have a campfire in the firepit just out front, take a walk around the lake, go fishing, or take the nearby {green route} for hiking/biking past castles, villages and more.

Our area offers so many things to do, it is a region full of magnificent natural surroundings, chateaux, bastides, rolling hills, sunflowers, friendly people, and of course the Gascon cuisine, wines and armagnac! Away from the crowds of tourists and high prices! We offer some ideas:

Adventure & Sports: *Tree top zip-line park, *forest paintball *Canoe down the Ardour river *Walibi adventure park is great fun for kids and adults! *Hike the Pyrenees mountains *Take a surfing class at Biarritz or Hossegor beach! Nogaro: Drive a race car at the local circuit or watch the scheduled racing events -after all the excitement stop by the local spa village for a couple hours of bliss, or have a message from our recommended masseuse!

Arts/History: Visit the many villages from the medieval times, Nogaro has a church from the Roman times! Just across the lake is the oldest restored church in the Landes region! From 1027! Visit museums that feature subjects from armagnac to Chateau's of the kings! There are several chateau's locally who offer wine tastings such as Buzet, Saint-Mont, and our own local wines and armagnacs!

Gastronomy: The local cuisine in Gascony is not to be missed! We have several michelin starred restaurants nearby, and others that are highly recommended by ourselves and our guests.

Explore! *Visit the Henry IV chateau in Nerac-after take a relaxing river cruise, and top it off with dinner waterside! *Go antiquing & botiquing around the local villages, my favorite: The only round bastide village: Fources! Visit the fabulous cities of Bordeaux or Toulouse! -Great for shopping/exploring!

Ohhh, soo many things to do....or not! Its your choice while staying at the Lake Cottage at LaTour!

A perfect place for families, or couples who want to get back to nature, away from the tourist crowds and long lines, and enjoy the history and tradition of secret Gascony!

Gascony: France's New Foodie Destination

by Condé Nast Traveler Jul 11, 2013 5:28 PM EDT

Not since the Three Musketeers unsheathed their swords centuries ago has Gascony seen this much excitement. To savor le dernier cri in French cooking, Michael Ruhlman heads to southwest France, where the rich, earthy gastronomy is newly alive and very well. En garde!

Saint Justin

In Gascony, France, farm-to-table isn't an artisanal trend but a centuries-old way of life. Feast with your eyes of the produce sold in beautiful markets and served in a land of rolling hills.

You can find beautiful villages Like Fources-the round bastide village known for its flower festivals and brocante/antique shops. Nerac- where you could dine along the rivers edge and take a canal boat ride after visiting the Chateau Henry IV. Marciac- the famous jazz festival village, only 45 minutes drive! Further on still...The Pyrenees Mountains for long or short day hiking, and of course the Basque villages such as Saint-Jean-de-Luz, a beautiful harbor village full of shops and quirky cafe's. Then theres famous Biarritz beach with the chocolate museum and aquarium, or Mimizan beach! We have a little of everything, and rest assured after a fun day of exploring, it is always nice to come back to the peaceful Lake Cottage! Some of our previous guests have been artists, writers, but mostly families that want to let the children run and play, so the parents can lounge and relax, make a BBQ and enjoy the local wine... Welcome to our Gascony!

"The Lake Cottage - A Carefree Cottage (for fun and relaxation)"

I don't usually write reviews of holidays but we had such a good time at The Lake Cottage, I felt it merited a few lines. We received such a warm welcome from our host, Jodi, even though we arrived late evening instead of early afternoon! Tired and hungry after the journey we were thrilled to discover Jodi had supplied a generous welcome basket of goodies for us:- Fresh eggs, produce from her 'potager' and paté, not to mention a delicious chillled bottle of local rosé, just perfect for supper and watching the sun going down on the terrace, a great start to the holiday. Our week was all we hoped for. Even though we were not blessed with all day sunshine, the locals said the rain was "exceptionelle" for June, it was perfect for cycling around the countryside, (not too hot for the kids),bikes provide by our host, visiting local vineyards, some not hugely commercial, which was lovely. The local 'Floc de Gascogne' was a big hit!! We toured around many of the villages, one prettier than the next, Jodi was a mine of information and always on hand with advice, but not intrusive. The kids adored the gardens, woods and lake, it was a very safe environment for them to be let loose in the "wild"!!, gathering the eggs in the morning was a particular favourite with them. The cottage itself was just great, beds were comfortable, the kitchen/living area, which led out onto the the terrace made for a very easy relaxed environment. We were sad to leave and hope if we are down this way again we'll revisit. Many thanks again to you Jodi and your wonderful cottage, it must be lovely to live here all year round!

It was such a pleasure having you and your family as guests at the Lake Cottage! I really enjoyed seeing the kids running around seeking adventures in the woods and lakeside...and the interesting things they found. I also enjoyed the typical "apero" with you two...what worldly adventures you two have had! I am glad you all had a great time (Im blushing!) thanks for the review, Ive felt like I have met new friends in the world, and hope to see you again! cheers! Jodi

Thank you for the great review! You and your family were so much fun, and Im glad you had a great time!
NOTE: Because you used my computer to give your review, it says that I stayed there instead of you, well, just for the viewers to know, my guest did write this on the wifi terrace (with a nice glass of rose!) here at LaTour Lake Cottage. I hope this doesn't confuse anyone!
