The Island of Malta region
Malta has been referred to as the jewel of the Mediterranean. The deep blue sea neutralises climate conditions, warms in winter and cools in summer. Swimming in a comfortable temperatue starts in May and ends in October/November.
The more daring ones swim all the year round, Museums and live shows re Malta's participation in two world wars, are very much sought after by tourists. Archeological treasures like hagarqim and mnajdra are a must for those interested in archeology. The old capital Mdina and Valletta, two walled up cities are worth a whole day's visit
The Saint Julian's / Spinola Bay area
St Julians originally a fishing village has been turned into Malta's number one tourist resort. It comprisesPaceville where bars, restaurants, cinemas and all kinds of entertainment establishments abound in this part of st julians which is synonymous to nightlife.
The local feast held in August is a real must. Fireworks, greasy pole in the middle of spinola bay, band marches, street dancing etc.

Trip advisor was simple to use. We found exactly what we were looking for without having to resort to a regimented hotel format holiday. Having never been to Malta before we needed suitable accommodation that offered self catering with elevated sea/harbour or marina views from a balcony that could be used for light meals and evening refreshments. The apartment was adequate and appropriate for our personal needs offering clean and comfortable accommodation with an essential modern fitted shower room. Conveniently positioned for amenities, most facilities and public transportation without having the need to hire a car. Ron the Maltese owner was friendly and helpful throughout and provided us with a pickup and return to the airport taking away any concerns about taxi's timing traffic etc. Although not long enough, we had 10 days to relax and see this colourful historic country at our pace. This apartment is in a prime position over looking St Julians , this im afraid is the good news . Ron the owner is a lovely friendly chatty man who obviously is very proud of the flat .. But .. It says it sleeps 7 , only if you want people sleeping on an extremely outdated , faded , and lumy pull out sofa bed . There is no other bedroom apart from the main bedroom , i think the other ' bedroom ' is the entrance hall ... The best room in the whole flat is the bathroom which has been recently renovated . This houses an out of dated twin tub washer which has to be filled from from a tap , so you end up spending precious holiday time standing there doing your washing . The machine does not spin properly either and im sure the pump isnt working properly . Dont sit on the loo with the window open either , or the people opposite upstairs might be able to see you .. All the furnishings are from the 60's , so very very outdated , faded and very uncomfortable to relax on . The balcony is furnished with cheap and nasty white plastic chairs ( i hate them ) but there is a lovely view and brilliant for just sitting and people watching .. The kitchen , hmmm ..old fridge , worktops that are old and the seals are mouldy and dirty. Utensils are old and nasty , sink leaks and the seals around it has just been botched ..Kettle takes forever to boil because of it age . Glasses that im sure have been collected free with tokens , all mismatched crockery , pots and pans i wouldnt even give away , i didnt use them urghhh ..Frying pan all scratched and old .. Now the main bedroom .. Two cheap ( very cheap ) pineboard bases pushed together with a paper thin mattress on top , we had to put the sofa cushions underneath the mattresses to make it remotely comfy , its just not on to make a paying guest sleep in such an excuse for a bed .. The bedding again is mismatched and old .. A stand up fan is the only air con in here so sleeping became hard to cope with due to the heat .. For the amount that is being charged this flat should be so much more . Its in depserate need of updating and modernising .. I have been to Malta many times and i love it , but i wont be staying at this apartment again unless some money is invested all and the furnishings updated.. I ask you Ron , would you would sleep in a bed like that ? And there is NO internet either as advertised .. Response: Client was here in June. Review 3 months after. Why? Can send you her e-mail saying she was having a wonderful time. You would not say that if you sleep on a wafer thin matress. [matress othopaedic, 1 foot high, well sprung, year old]. Furniture in bedrooms, kitchen brand new. Armchairs in open balcony made of solid high grade plastc to withstand the weather. Mould non existent. Apt recently refurbished. No windows overlooking bathroom. {?} Rest in excellent condition. Why complain about sofabeds when only the double bed was used. Guests were a couple. a couple. There must be an ulterior motive. A reply will be very much appreciated. |
