The Island of Malta region
The Maltese Islands are positively mythic. The narrow meandering streets of their towns and villages are crowded with Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces. As the countryside is dotted with the oldest known human structures in the world, the Islands have rightly been described as an open-air museum.
The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the centre of the Mediterranean, with Malta 93km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa. The archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of 400,000 inhabitants over an area of 316sq km and a coastline of 196.8km (not including 56.01 km for the island of Gozo).
Malta is the largest island and the cultural, commercial and administrative centre. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterised by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture while Comino is largely uninhabited and most famous for the Blue Lagoon featured in numerous films.
With superbly sunny weather, clear warm sea, a thriving nightlife and 7,000 years of intriguing history, there is a great deal to see and do. With a little help from any guidebook, captivating places of interest are immediately identified – the world famous Hypogeum selected as a place of World Heritage by UNESCO, prehistoric temples and grand palaces are but a few.
The long relationship between the Islanders and the various nationalities that occupied Malta over the centuries has created a marriage of styles and traditions, giving the Islands a fascinating eclectic culture.
The Saint Julian's area
St Julians was initially a fishing village, later turned to a summer residence for wealthy locals and now developed into one of the Island's mostly fetched resorts for night life and entertainment, especially for the youngsters and the middle aged. Within walking distance to Paceville, this village still retains some of it's old dwellings and boat houses.
The small bay still shelters numerous coloured Maltese boats that are berthed here all year long. St Julians derives it's name from the Patron Saint of hunters.St Julians is a village for all ages and walks of life. The young at heart will enjoy nearby Paceville - this locality offers much to tourists looking for nightlife entertainment, including discos, bars , Casino , restaurants and other entertainment.
Sliema and St Julians resort are Malta's main coastal resort towns and a heartland for shopping, entertainment and café life. They are also key commercial and residential areas with some of Malta's newest hotels and apartments.
The sea front at St Julian's offers stunning views and open horizons and is a popular meeting place and ideal for walkers and joggers. St Julian's and Paceville are Malta's main nightlife areas. Picturesque St Julian's Bay, still used by fishermen, is lined with bougainvillea-clad cafés and restaurants. Paceville offers a vibrant nightlife to suit all tastes. Choose from the latest in club DJ music to quieter piano bars, an elegant casino and superb restaurants. Inland from these coastal resorts lie some of Malta's most urban yet sought-after residential areas.

This appartment was very spacious. Fantastic views in an ideal location. Definitely needed the air conditioning which worked a treat. Lovely big balcony which was ideal for my elderly parents to sit and watch the world go by. The owner was helpful and easy to work with. Would definitely use this apartment again if returning to Malta. The only fault was the frying pan as everything sticks to it ! |

This is exceptional lodging; large top floor three bedroom with wonderful views of Balluta Bay. We were a family of six adults and this flat was luxuriously spacious. The other family members couldn't believe that the place was all ours. And, you can't beat the location. We were able to travel everywhere via bus or walking. The owners were also great to work with, they obviously care about their flat and their business. Highly recommended! |
