Attractive, spacious holiday home with lovely views and close to the coast
Villa Olibenia is a good-sized house, 200m2, in a substantial plot (2500m2), with charming open-plan ground floor living areas which open on to the covered terraces & gardens. It all combines to make a very relaxing place to stay.
Throughout the décor is summery and relaxed - light painted walls, terracotta-tiled floor (downstairs), natural flooring upstairs. The standard of equipment and fittings is good quality overall - the upstairs bedrooms are more simply furnished.
Hardwood entrance door, hallway with open-plan dining area and kitchen to one side, and a single step down to a good-sized sitting area at the end. It all makes an open and good-sized living space.
The living room seats 8, with two 3-seater sofas plus chairs arranged around a coffee table and fireplace. A large window faces south west over the garden, and sliding doors open on to the terrace.
The dining area contains a table seating 6; a breakfast bar which separates this area from the kitchen has two stools. Sliding doors from the dining area lead on to the covered dining terrace.
The open-plan kitchen is modern, good quality and well-equipped, including fridge-freezer, oven with electric hob, microwave, dishwasher & washing machine.
Located off the hallway is the master bedroom, a good size double-bedroom with plenty of cupboard space, desk with TV, and an en-suite bathroom with bath & shower attachment.
(There is also a separate toilet located off the hall.)
Stairs from the living room lead to an open landing area which serves as a TV corner - with sofa-bed, television and DVD.
Upstairs are also three twin bedrooms - all are quite simple rooms, approx. 8-10m2 each, with side-tables. The beds can be joined to make doubles. There is also a shower room and separate toilet at this level.
Accessed from outside via its own doorway at the front of the house is the annex bedroom, approx. 15m2, containing twin beds and en-suite shower.
Sliding ground floor doors lead on to a large covered terrace with balustrade forming an appealing alfresco dining area, with table & chairs seating 6, plus two further garden chairs and side tables for relaxing & reading, and plancha for outdoor cooking. The views from here are lovely - rolling countryside and the Pyrenees in the background.
A sloping area of grass then series of stone steps lead down to the pool terrace, a timber deck which surrounds the 10m x 5m pool, protected by an alarm, with Roman steps at one end sloping down to a depth of 2m50 at the other. Five sunloungers are available.
At the bottom of the garden (beyond the pool) is the terrain de boules - a proper 'pitch' (if that's the word) for mastering this artful game over an apéritif as the sun goes down. Several sets of boules are available.
At the front is a gravel parking area for 2 cars, separated from the road by gates.

The Basque Country region
Villa Olibenia is located on a country lane half-way between the Basque hamlet of Olhette and St Jean de Luz, which is about a 10 minute drive. The road has just a little traffic. Local shops are in Urrugne, and of course St Jean de Luz which boasts a lovely town beach, pedestrianised centre and a couple of dozen cafés and good restaurants.
San Sebastian in Spain, Biarritz & lovely Basque country villages are all in easy reach.
