The Basque Country region
A variety of things to do in a multifaceted region…
Enjoy the city and the sea. Close to Spain where you can discover the royal city of San Sebastian or Bilbao and his famous Guggenheim museum, Aquitaine is full of nice places to see. You can also stroll along the quays alongside the Nive River and the nice colored 18th century houses of Bayonne or visit the so cute white villages with their so special churches and nice green landscapes.
Coastal Aquitaine offers unforgettable fishing trips, relaxation, beneficial thalassotherapy centres, as well as cycling tracks and golf courses in the shade of pine trees.
Inland Aquitaine also has rolling fairways, walks, horse rides or bike rides, and canoeing along the waterways.
Pyrenean Aquitaine is ideal for fishing, white-water canoeing, well-being in the spa towns and hiking through unique landscapes.
The basque Coast offers the mildest climate of France in winter. Check your favorite weather forecasts site. No wind and nice sunny days in winter. But you can go skiing if you want as the first slope are only 2hours drive from Saint jean de luz.
October offers nice colors and the water is not so cold. April and May are quite rainy...
The glorious bay of Saint Jean de luz sweeps round from headland to distant, rocky headland, with a sense of oceanic power that makes the Med seem idle by comparison. Directly behind, the loveliest old port town on the French Atlantic coast revels in a Basque past and present of fish, fiestas and white half-timbered family homes. The fishing port still lands fish, rather than flip-flopped billionaires. And the Pyrenees supply the backdrop.
Saint jean de luz is a lovely balnear family station. There are plenty of activities and shows organized all over the year. Its nice main pedestrian street is nice for shopping.
Biarritz is really close with its royal history and astonishing rocky landscape and surfers rinding the perfect waves. It's also the place to be for nightclubbing and jet-set.
There are lot of leisure facilities :
Surf, Sailing are the most popular sea-side activities but Saint Jean de luz is located at less than 15kms to 6 famous Golf Courses (Chantaco, Nivelle, Phare de Biarritz, Arcangues, Bassussary, Chiberta...)
You can also go to a rugby games (Biarritz and Bayonne are 2 famous teams of the Frence Top14) or go for sea water spa therapy, health, fitness and relaxation.
Basque culture is still strong.the mood is festive with that colourful brand of celebration that the Basques know how to sing and dance so well the whole year long!. There are lots of festivals, Popular Strengh Festival, Dance Festival, Music Festival , Movies Festival...
Markets in typical villages could also a be goal for a visit and have a stop in our many restaurants or snacks by the sea. Lots of things to enjoy all over the year.

"A perfect place to spend relaxing time with a large group of friends or a big family"
Very well located close to the sea (altough we mainly rented it for Xmas family get together) in a quiet environment, this house has been fairly well maintained by the owners and displays all the charms of a last century mansion, lots of rooms and bathrooms (hence some intermittent problems with hot water or electricity) but with all modern features, wifi connection, remote control gate, TV/DVD/music player. The house is fully furnished and you find everything you need to feel at home. The owners are nice and helpful. This was our 2nd stay and we will certainly come back
