Les Chênes Verts

About the home
Recently re-modeled including a BRAND NEW 10m x 5m SWIMMING POOL. 'Les Chênes Verts' is ideally located in the centre of the South of France. Facing 'plein sud' the living accommodation is arranged over two floors having 2 double en suite bedrooms, and a further double bedroom with single and double bed and an additional double sofa bed in the lounge if required. On the second floor there are two bedrooms, one en-suite and the main bathroom, together with the second lounge which has internet access. There is also a nice balcony with far reaching hillside views across the oak woodland which surrounds the property.
On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen inc. dishwasher, separate wc and ample dining and lounge areas, The third en-suite double bedroom is also located on this floor making it ideal for elderly or disabled guests. In the large lounge there is a luxury leather suite facing the log fire and tv. There are 3 sets of French windows all leading to the large 50 m2 terrace.
Outside there is a beautiful, brand new 10m x 5m private pool which is surrounded by a fully tiled bathing area. For those who don't 'go out in the mid-day sun' there is a shaded veranda at the far end for enjoying whatever tipple you fancy.
There are 2 tiled terraces, one off the lounge, kitchen and 3rd bedroom and one immediately below which is fully shaded for cool lunches or a game of table tennis. You will always find a shady spot somewhere in the large gardens if you are too hot in the Mediterranean sunshine, but also plenty of private areas for sunbathing too with ample sun loungers.
The property is entered through wrought iron gates which lead to a double car shade and ample parking for a further 2-3 cars. Discrete fencing borders the property and the small lane ends 2 houses further up so it is very peaceful. In front of the property, set below, is an old track which is great for exploring, bird watching etc. (but take stout shoes).
The village centre is approximately 2.8km away with a supermarket, petrol station, post office, pharmacy, doctors surgery and if required a good veterinary surgery and most importantly the local vignerons.
We are glad to say that our first summer season has been a great success, with full bookings throughout summer and into autumn. Please call us with any enquiries or questions that you might have and we will be more than happy to help.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Gard region

The Gard is the most easterly department in the Languedoc-Rousillon, adjacent to Provence. Consistently it has the highest temperatures. The area is known for it's mild climate all year round especially from May to October with many great days still throughout the winter where days are often sunny and nights crisp. It is not unusual to spend Christmas Day enjoying a bbq on the terrace.
The landscape is dominated by beautiful vineyards and oak forests with every village having it's own unique charm and character.
The Roman city of Nimes is the capital and films such as Ronin (Robert de Niro) were filmed at the Arena as was Gladiator (Russell Crow). The chic shops and many great restaurants and night-life combine with culture in the numerous museums and art galleries. You never know you make take home a painting or two?
The Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort area
St. Hippolyte du Fort is situated at the gateway to the Cevennes National Park an area of outstanding natural beauty and was historically known for it's silk farms. There is a silk museum in the town centre along with several restaurants and bars as well as a selection of small shops including the all important boulangeries.
The markets of Sommieres, Gange, St. Jean du Gard, Anduze and Uzes are all well worth a visit with al-fresco dining the norm. Many people buy produce from the stalls and order a beer or wine from the bars and watch the world go by, meeting many new and interesting friends.
Venturing to the north to Mont Aigoual in either winter or summer rewards one with spectacular landscapes, skiing and walking. The historical Pont du Gard is an easy drive away as is the historic town of Uzes.
Various activities are available within a short distance such as horse riding, canoeing trips, quad biking to mention a few. At Anduze about 15 minutes away, there is a steam railway which travels to St. Jean du Gard. A full collection of leaflets are available with the welcome pack.
The long sandy mediterranean beaches and fishing ports at Carnon, La Grau du Roi and La Grande Motte are all exciting places to visit, as is L'espiguette a long white sandy beach and dunes.
La Grande Motte has a large marina full of yachts and launches. Boat and fishing trips are available as are jet skis for the more adventurous. A little way inland from the Grau du Roi is Aigue Mort which is contained within ancient ramparts and is wonderful for long lunches.

The trip to 'Les Chênes Verts' couldn't be more simple and rewarding. It's possible to fly into the nearby towns of Montpellier, Nimes and Bezier (all within 40 - 80 minutes drive) with Ryanair along with other budget airlines a little further away at Marseille and Avignon at around 90 minutes.
Alternatively you can travel by train to Avignon or Nimes. From the towns' train stations or airports you can rent a car (many airline's websites give discounts if you are flying with them).
Of course you will also find it easy to get here by car from the UK and Europe. If you just want to chill for a week then a car isn't strictly necessary if you use local taxis and good old shoe leather but to get the best out of the region we recommend a car.
Enjoy your trip.
