The Loire Valley / Loir-et-Cher region
A year-round location, centrally for visiting the famous castles in the Loire Valley, the famous valley of the Kings; you will visit the beautiful and historic chateaux (Chenonceau, Amboise, Chambord, Villandry and many more). We are only 4 minutes drive from Chateau de Chenonceau the most visited of all the chateaux after Versailles. We are also located in the heart of the Touraine wine region so if you are keen this is your chance to visit the wineries in Vouvray, Chinon, Bourgeuil. Saumur also we are only 2 hours drive from Sancerre. Local food is excellent, lots of good restaurants to explore in nearby villages and in the Chateaux villages. There is plenty to interest children as well - take them to see the mini-chateaux in Amboise, the Aquarium which takes oyu down the Loire River with all types of fish found in the river as well as having a great selection of sharks and crocodiles; the zoo in St Aignan has white tigers, Pandas, and many other anilmals; Tintin in Cheverny etc. Chateaux have childrens areas as well.
The Saint Georges sur Cher / Vrigny area
The location is quiet, with little passing traffic, the vineyards are a few steps away so lovely walks and cycle rides. You can walk along the River to Chenonceaux or shop in Montrichard, Tours or Amboise; there is a market every day so take your choice; local cafes and restaurants are excellent. Visit Tours and sit in the square at the historic Place Plumereau. Loved the cottage. Particularly impressed by the comfy beds clean sheets sumptuous duvets. Kitchen excellent living room spacious, lots of beds so we'll bring friends next time. Didn't get much chance to use garden due to it being January but think it would be great in summer. Nothing bad to say about the place!
Thank you Meeta we are so pleased you have enjoyed your stay. We have really lovely beds with good quality mattresses and duvets, white linen and towels. We also provide synthetic bedding for anyone allergic to feathers. There is a really big garden so great for children; also we are close to the vineyards with good walks and cycle rides, we provide bikes and many of our guests use these; we are within cycle ride of Chenonceaux. Lovely in summer but great the rest of the year too as the chateaux are open all the year round.

My husband, University aged daughter and I spent a week at Cottage Grandmere in May.
It is a great location- in the village of St George sur Cher, 1.4km walk to the village centre, where one can buy all the essentials but also only 5km drive to Mont Richard, which has a large supermarket on the outskirts and several good restaurants in the centre. Its easy to park along the river and then walk 2 minutes in to the restaurants.
On arrival, we were late but the local grocer who was closing his doors, opened up for us to get some essentials- everyone is very friendly. We were at the patisserie every morning to pick up croissant for breakfast (except Monday they are closed).
The cottage has been very nicely renovated, it is charming and very comfortable, and has a very good kitchen that has everything you can think of. The nights were a bit chilly, but the electric heaters warmed up the sitting area quickly.
The cottage is quite spacious- it could easily accommodate a large family or two couples and a couple of children.
The cottage also comes equipped with a good selection of bicycles in excellent condition and we had a very enjoyable bike ride to Chenonceau- it was easy to find the way. We think Chennonceau is the nicest castle in the Loire Valley. It was an easy ride of just a few kilometres.
Grandmere is an ideal location for day trips by car - everything is very close- and we particularly enjoyed Chateau Villandry with its spectacular gardens, Amboise and the nearby Clos de Luce with its exhibition of Da Vinci inventions were also very nice.. At Chambord we had a very nice lunch in the grounds of the castle- surprisingly good value at 10.50 Euro for a Quiche, drink and dessert- eating in the courtyard of the castle was very nice. We also very much liked Chaumont sur Loir a show case for artists and a rather quirky display of art gardens -that are based on an international competition. We didn't run out of things to do in our one week stay.
We cooked several meals during the week but also tried several restaurants- we particularly liked Le Tuffeaux in Mont Richard-we went our first and our last night. We also liked the restaurant in an auberge in Blourre- forgotten the name- run by Dutch family. A bit more expensive, but a nice treat with very pleasant service.
