The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Pyrenees Orientales is the southernmost of Languedoc-Roussillon’s 5 Departments. There are many opportunities for walking or cycling. Along the coast there are several resorts with lively promenades and long sandy beaches, although you may prefer to visit the delightful fishing village of Collioure, one of the pearls of the Mediterranean, made famous by artists such as Matisse, Dali and Picasso. South of Collioure you come to Banyuls sur Mer, famous for the sweet aperitif that bears its name. From there you can take the coast road into Spain for lunch and other bargains.

Inland, the regional capital, Perpignan, (20 minutes drive) is well worth a visit with excellent shopping and much of interest including the summer castle of the Kings of Mallorca. En route to Perpignan are Palau del Vidre, famous for its decorative glassware, and the delightful old quarter of Elne. A little beyond Elne is the charming mountain village of Castelnou. See our web site for further details.

Saint Genis des Fontaines

St Genis is a delightful, quiet village 30 km to the south of Perpignan and only 8 km inland from the Mediterranean beaches at Argeles-sur-mer - listed in the top 6 beaches in France. The village offers a playground for children, a boulodrome, a trim trail, two tennis courts, cycling and rambling paths, horse riding. There is a market on Tuesdays and Fridays selling local produce. The village is famous for its 10th century Romanesque Abbey, the Saint-Michel. There is a full range of shops; bank, tabac, post office, chemist, doctor, dentist, supermarket, cafes, boulangeries, restaurants and bars. The close proximity of the villa to the Auberge des Alberes means that you can enjoy plenty of the excellent local wine with your meal.

"Comfortable and clean well equipped home and pool in an ideal location"

We selected this home to accommodate two different families with teenage children; the essential criteria being 1) a swimming pool, 2) to be semi rural but near shops, beaches, mountains and interesting towns for visits. This property ticked these boxes and exceeded our expectations in terms of its presentation and cleanliness, space, facilities and 'extras'. 'Extras' being the free phone calls to UK land lines, the generous amount of kitchen equipment, crocks and gadgets at our disposal, lots of comfortable outdoor furniture, any amount of games, equipment and entertainment for beach, pool or indoors and 2 bikes that we used almost daily on the cycle paths located at the edge of the town.
The house is set in a cluster of houses on the edge of the small town of St Genis des Fontaines;the shops are located within a 5 minute walk of the house in one direction and larger food stores within a 2 minute drive in the other direction.
We enjoyed barbecues on a couple of occasions and sat outside under the awning next to the pool each evening to eat meals and socialise. The pool was a vital source of refreshment, and entertainment for kids and adults alike!
The house has two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and the same downstairs located off a large living room/diner; this set up worked well for two different families except that our preference would have been for a double and twin room both upstairs and downstairs to cater for our specific needs instead of three doubles and a twin. This house comes highly recommended by each of our eight person party. Thanks

Many thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm sure that your comments will prove helpful to others. Above all though it is rewarding for us to know that you enjoyed your holiday.

"A perfect home from home holiday villa"

We stayed in the Villa Bonne Vie for two weeks in August and we can honestly say that it was a perfect base for our holiday. 7 of us stayed, 4 adults and 3 teens and there wasn't anything we needed that was not included in the property. It felt like a home from home but with glorious weather!! The house is situated within easy access of local shops and main roads to visit many beautiful French towns, villages and beaches. What made it extra special was the use of the pool. With the temperature often reaching 30C plus, it was wonderful to be able to cool off with a dip in the privacy of a sunny garden. Air conditioning was also very welcome, especially at night. The use of WiFi with 3 teens was like a lifeline, as was the facility of free calls to the UK.
The property was beautifully maintained which is credit to Derek & Christine, the agents, who were easily contactable should there be anything that needed doing.
The Villa Bonne Vie made sure our holiday was memorable, relaxing and very comfortable and we would recommend it as the perfect accommodation for a self-catering stay.

Many thanks for your review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in St Genis. It is also good to know that the wifi and free phone calls are proving useful to our clients.

"A fabulous Villa in a wonderful location with excellent facilities...."

We stayed for two weeks in Summer 2012. A truly lovely Villa in a superb location with all facilities close at hand. The layout of the Villa makes it ideal for larger Families or Groups. The Pool is wonderfully warm thanks to its cover, the Villa superbly cool thanks to the air conditioning, the children happy thanks to very fast wi-fi, and my Wife and I ecstatic thanks to a superb Coffee Machine and a BBQ that really works well!
We have stayed in Villas in France for over 20 years and this is the first time we have re-booked to go back to one for a second trip. We re-booked here before we even left to go Home this year......
We advertise our own Holiday Let on Holiday Lettings too and so we have a fairly good idea of what Holiday Makers look for....our advice to anyone reading this is - get it booked!

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review and for your very kind words. It is gratifying to hear that the facilities we provide, such as our broadband wifi, are appreciated by our clients.

"Fabulous house, wonderfully located."

We have just returned from a great holiday in Saint Genis des Fontaines.

We have four kids ranging in age from 5 to 13 and they all had a wonderful time in the house which was very clean, very well equipped...lots of little things like dvds, pool and beach toys on site make things easier. These days...Wi-fi is important and makes things easier, too. We also used the air-conditioning and all slept well despite the heat.

The four bedrooms were ideal for us and in the high Summer temperatures the kids loved playing in the pool. Hope we were not too noisy!

The house is ideally situated...5 minutes walk from a couple of boulangeries and 2 minutes drive from a good-sized Carrefour. There is a little bar in the square in the village, which although not special, was friendly and ideal for an evening stroll.

15 minutes from the beaches and stunning Collioure one way...beautiful Ceret, the other. Also only 15 minutes from the motorway and another 5 minutes and you are into Spain.

We had to fly to Barcelona from Prestwick but the drive was only around 2 hours. Easily do able.

Excellent communication with the owners Phil and Maureen.

We are already planning a return trip next year.

Paul, Nicola and family, Glasgow.

Many thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are very pleased that you liked the area and that the villa lived up to your expectations. It is good to know that you found the wifi useful.

"Great house & excellent location"

We had a fantastic holiday in this well equipped house. The home was great for our needs and comfortably accomodated 4 adults and 3 children. We know the village very well, and we able to walk to friends locally, walk to the Boulangerie, and drive to the Carrefour in 3 minutes. The house was a great base for touring around the amazing countryside, close to the beach and village shops. The air conditioning, pool, wi-fi and SKY were a big bonus for us, and especially the children! Owners were very helpful both prior and during our stay, thankyou .Local reps. were friendly & helpful too.
We would recommend this property and would love to return again!

Many thanks for your kind comments. We are pleased that you had a good time and that our villa met your expectations.

"A wonderful villa that is really well equipped for families"

We had a lovely two week stay in this villa. We travelled to France by train and managed to cope without a car. The area is very much set up for car drivers so this was a bit tricky, however, there are some lovely shops in the village and we managed comfortably by not venturing to the local Carrefour ( there are also buses and taxis near by). We also discovered a couple of other villages that were walkable though some lovely countryside. The villa and pool were excellent and we spent every afternoon swimming. The pool cover meant it is was very safe for the children ( aged 6 and 3) and it also gave useful coverage when the sun was really hot. The lay out of the rooms is also incredibly good and easily allows two families or two groups of travellers to have a little privacy. The kitchen had everything we needed for some lovely French cooking! (the local tomatos and Nectarines are amazing). We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend it to others.

Many thanks for your kind words. It is good to know that it is possible to have such an enjoyable time without the use of a car. We hope to be able to welcome you again should you return to the region.
