Over 6000 sq. feet, Le Clos has recently been restored and decorated to a high level in French country style, and provides for a luxurious and comfortable stay. There are two reception rooms with working fires, a substantial games/sitting area, large open plan kitchen dining area, utility room, six king size and double bedrooms, two family bathrooms, one en suite bathroom and separate toilet. The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped including a LaCanche double oven range cooker. There is a separate utility room with all modern appliances.
All of the rooms have original French shuttered windows with views either onto the garden or the surrounding vineyards and rolling countryside. Immediately outside the kitchen there is an 18 x 16 metre shaded terrace, with tables and chairs for twelve to enjoy dining outside in the warm weather. The boule pitch is next to the terrace (see photos).
The large enclosed 3 acre private walled garden provides a number of beautiful old trees including Hazelnut, Plum, Fig, Horse Chestnut and stunning tall Magnolias. It is a peaceful and quiet haven with several hammocks in which to relax. Set within the garden is a large 13 x 5 metre heated pool and terrace with pool furniture.
Both main house and gîte are arranged to accommodate families including children. There is a full sized cot, four travel cots, separate bed restrainers, high chair, buggy and also plates, cups and cutlery suitable for young children. The large games area provides board games/puzzles, toys and a selection of books for adults and children.

Rental periods run from Saturday to Saturday. The house is ready from 4pm on your day of arrival. We ask guests to leave by 10am on day of departure to allow the house to be cleaned and prepared.
The pool has an electric cover - our property manager will explain its operation. We ask guests to cover the pool overnight both to comply with stringent French pool safety laws and to retain heat for the next day’s usage.
Our property manager welcomes guests and is on call to ensure that you have a relaxed and comfortable stay.
Conditions
During the summer the cost of gas, electricity, water, pool cleaning and one set of bedding and towels is included, plus the cost of cleaning after departure. Further daily cleaning can be arranged on demand. We ask guests to leave the house in good order and reserve the right to charge for additional cleaning or replacement of broken items. Please note a 25% non-refundable deposit is required on booking.
In the winter season, heating will be charged at the end of the stay according to metered gas usage. We will leave some firewood for guests to use, but will reserve the right to charge extra for additional supplies. Many of the garages and 'bricolage' (DIY superstores) inexpensively sell wood and kindling.

Le Clos is located within France’s oldest and arguably finest wine-making region. The house is on the ‘Right Bank’ of the Gironde and very close to the world famous vineyards of St Emilion and Pomerol (Petrus is approximately ten minutes drive from the house). Magnificent wines, wonderful restaurants, pretty villages and gorgeous countryside and chateaux are there to be explored and enjoyed. Bordeaux is only 45 minutes drive and great for shopping, restaurants and historical sight-seeing.
The coast is one hour’s drive, including Arcachon - famous for both its oysters and the largest sand dune in Europe. There are a number of excellent golf courses close by, including Chateau Vigier. There are traditional local markets providing fresh produce throughout the week. More details of markets, restaurants and other activities are left at the house for visitors.
Weather wise it's warm (16-22 C) and sunny from May onwards until late September/October. July/August are the hottest months but May/June and Sept/Oct can be great too. Winters are generally mild.
The Saint Emilion / Lussac area
There's a wide choice of local activities including; exploring historic towns and villages such as St Emillion (a World Heritage Site), Castillon-La- Bataille, Puisseguin, Saint Foy-Le-Grande, Eymet to name a few. Also visiting world famous wine making chateaux around St Emillion, Pomerol and Lussac, playing golf at Chateau Vigier (40 mins drive), horse riding (10 mins away) and fishing near Castillon, plus local lakes to swim in and a family friendly waterpark 10 minutes away by car.
Local markets abound and occur most days of the week. There are also a number of festivals throughout the year. We have left information including guide books for guests to borrow during their stay. Our property manager is very happy to offer ideas and suggestions.

The property is 7km from St Emillion. There are a several travel options as follows:
Plane - 2 options: via Bordeaux (45 minutes drive) – serviced from the UK by British Airways (Gatwick service) and Easyjet (Luton) and BMibaby (from Birmingham). Or via Bergerac (55 minute drive) - serviced by Ryanair (Stansted, Birmingham), Flybe (Exeter, Southampton), Easyjet (via Bristol, Luton) and BMIbaby (Manchester). There is a wide choice of car rental companies available from all airports often, through your plane carrier at a discount.
Train: Nearest TGV (high speed train) is Libourne (20 minute drive) or Bordeaux (45 minute). Connecting from Paris. Car rental available from both stations.
Ferry/Road: A wide choice of routes. The nearest port is St Malo (6 hour drive). Also Caen (7 hrs), or Calais (8-9 hrs). Driving time to Le Clos varies according to the port and route taken.
