Home description
Maison de Milon is a delightful, eighteenth century, limestone farmhouse situated in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region with sweeping views of surrounding vineyards. Set in 3 acres of gardens with large private pool, it enjoys a secluded and peaceful setting that is perfect for family and large group holidays.
This six-bedroom farmhouse has been recently renovated and decorated to a high standard that enhances its period features (Girondine stone fireplaces, exposed limestone interior walls, beamed ceilings and tiled floors) whilst providing all the comforts of modern living. It is also eco-friendly with a newly-installed geo-thermal system that provides all central heating and hot water for the house.
Situated in the French Gironde, just 10 minutes from the stunning medieval town and world heritage site of St. Emilion, it is an ideal location for wine-lovers to visit the picturesque wine chateaux of St Emilion and other famous Bordeaux vineyards such as Pomerol and Fronsac. Close by is the small village of Les Artigues de Lussac where boulangerie, boucherie and general store provide basic amenities.
Maison de Milon offers spacious, comfortable and child-friendly accommodation with 6 bedrooms (3 doubles, 1 triple and 2 twins) and 4 bathrooms suitable for up to 13 guests plus 2 babies/toddlers. The house also benefits from a second TV/sitting room and kitchen as well as cosy kids den.
There is ample outdoor living space including an enclosed, landscaped pool area that encompasses the large terraced saltwater swimming pool, ancient stone well, mature flowering trees and plants and large dining terrace. The rest of the gardens provide lawn areas for outside games, varied fruit and nut trees for both climbing and picking and several different seating areas for outdoor wining and dining.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region
Rich in history, gastronomic specialities and the traditions of wine-making, the Gironde stretches from the Atlantic coast across to the bordering departments of the Dordogne and the Lot-et-Garonne in the East. The Gironde region remains unspoilt and lesser known than its neighbour the Dordogne, despite being the largest department in not only Aquitaine but the whole of France.
Maison de MIlon lies just outside the village of Les Artigues de Lussac, to the east of Bordeaux ,and as such enjoys proximity both to the Atlantic coast and to the villages and prehistoric caves of the Dordogne and the Lot-et-Garonne as well as the local attractions of the Gironde itself. Well-connected by motorway and highway, our property is ideally located for discovering attractions throughour the region.
The elegant city of Bordeaux is just 40 minutes away and well worth a visit whilst the picturesque resorts of Arcachon and Cap Ferret can be reached in 1 hr 15/1hr 30mins and make a great day out for all the family with safe sandy beaches, boat trips, wonderful restaurants and the famous super-sand dune - "Dune de Pyla" - to climb (not compulsary!).
Saint Emilion area
Maison de Milon is set in vine-covered countryside dotted with stunning, picturesque limestone farmhouses and wine-chateaux. These are the world-renowned Bordeaux vineyards where St. Emilion and Pomerol are among the leading appellations - most of whom are delighted to welcome visitors to wine-tasting tours of their vineyards and chateaux.
Stunning St. Emilion a short drive away is one of the most famous sights in the Bordeaux region with its medieval golden-limestone architecture, ancient churches, pretty cobbled streets and numerous prestige wine shops. The St. Emilion tourist board offers a host of tours from walking and cycling to historic sights to wine-tasting at the famous wine chateaux. Or you may, of course, prefer to simply drink in the sights from one of the terraces with a St. Emilion red or a class of chilled Sauternes (delicious with foie gras) or enjoy a lunch of typical dishes of the region (scallops and Arcachon oysters, potted rillettes, creamy goats cheese, cepes and black truffles and duck confit).
Maison de Milon is just outside the small village of Les Artigues de Lussac (1.5 km) where a boulangerie, bougerie and general store cater for all basic needs and where the local wine chateau has excellent wine-tasting tours. Tennis courts can also be booked. Smaller villages 5-10 minutes away offer some super local restaurants whilst the bastide town of Libourne, with its many restaurants, shops and twice-weekly market is only a 15 minutes drive.
Sporting and leisure activites are easily accessible with several leisure lakes and golf courses nearby - Saint Sulpice et Cameyrac is just 30 minutes from Maison de Milon whilst the most prestigious is country club Chateau de Vigiers one hour away. There are several horseriding centres nearby catering for all ages and abilities including young children whilst the Montagne tourist board 5 minutes away provides information on walking and cycling routes as well as bicycle hire.
