The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Gironde region

Luxurygite is the only large luxury property in this locality being approx 1hr from Bordeaux, and within 1/2hr of both St Emilion and Bergerac and only 1/2km from the banks of the Dordogne River. It is literally surrounded by the prestigious vineyards and chateaux of the Bordeaux region.
The Entre deux Mers region of the Gironde is famed for its wine making, with the historic town of St Emillion being some 20 mins distant. Numerous chateaux are to be found in the area - many open for wine tasting. The area abounds in gently rolling hills, vineyards, sleepy villages and bustling market towns. The region is also famed for its gastromonie (truffles, foie gras) and its mild climate.
Aquitaine is rich in architecture - Bordeaux and Bergerac being fine examples, as well as some of the smaller bastide market towns full of old timbered buildings and cafes - perfect for a spot of people watching in the sunshine.
At the centre of the region is the Dordogne river (only 500m away). There are also several swimming lakes with beaches within 15 mins.

Le Verger is that rare, and wonderful combination of a gloriously grown-up getaway that is also ideally suited for children. We weren't travelling with children - but have strongly and heartily recommended it to all of our friends with kids since our return. Mutliple 'lounges' with one including a Nintendo Wii, lots of kids toys, DVDs and books plus a swimming pool and extensive grounds make this the perfect place for children to play and relax. The beautiful decor, nice furniture and proximity to the Bordeaux Chateaux makes this a great adult playground. From the friendly and useful pre-arrival information to the attention to detail in decor, services and information at the house, this 'gite' is more boutique hotel than self-catering rent-a-house. I thoroughly recommend Le Verger and advise other Gite owners to take a leaf out of Debbie and Richard's book for a winning formula. We'll definitely be going back. My only hesitation about recommending the house is the potential for booking competition in future - I'd like to keep this one all to myself! |

We had a fantastic stay at Le Verger. The property itself is stunning and very well maintained. We found the owners extremely helpful in providing information and recommendations about things to do in the surrounding area and even provided a shopping service for our arrival. Absolutely superb and very relaxing! |

We went as a family of 15 including 7 children under 3 .what a find . Our holiday started with all our shopping waiting in the cupbords and 6 travel cots made up wine on the table and amazing views over the vin yards. The house is beautifully furnished and yet we enjoyed it like it was home . The children loved the toys, especially the train track and ride on tractors. Having gone out as a family with children we all agreed le verger would be a special place to go as a large party of adults . All the rooms were very comfortable and had lots of extras . the extensive grounds with table tennis, swimmimg pool and all the electrical equipment kept the adults content. This was a holiday to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary it came up to our expectation and more. |
