Magnolia is one of 5 gites at Le Jardin des Amis, created from buildings which were once a farm dating back 300 years, The lovely golden stone property has been renovated and converted to provide comfortable self-catering accommodation with character.
The gites are set in 7 acres towards the edge of the medieval village of Meyrals: an easy 5 minutes walk into the centre to pick up freshly baked bread or croissants from the boulangerie or visit one of the 2 restaurants.
Magnolia has its own small fenced garden with wisteria shaded patio for outdoor meals but also shares the gardens, orchard, woods, meadow and pool with the other gites.
The large (12m x 6m) salt-system pool, surrounded by mediterranean style garden is a popular spot to relax on a hot summer's day or guests can find some shade at our adjacent pool bar which also houses a library of books, board games and sports equipment for guests to borrow.

The Dordogne region
The Dordogne is well known as one of the most beautiful parts of France, but this area of it, known as the Perigord Noir is where the greatest concentration of tourist sites can be found: pretty little bastide towns built in the local golden stone and dramatic cliff-top castles: relics of the hundred years war. Hill top gardens, chateaux, caves and prehistoric sites proliferate: many with wonderful views over the Dordogne or Vezere rivers.
The National museum of prehistory and a new interpretation centre can be found in the village of Les Eyzies, 4 miles from the gites, whilst the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat is only 15 - 20 minutes away. For those who prefer to be 'doing' there are ample opportunities for canoeing on the two rivers, or why not borrow a local map and have a few hours away from it all, following tracks through the woods on bike or foot, discovering hidden ruins and the manycaves in exposed cliffs (we know the area well and are happy to suggest walking routes etc.) For thrill seekers, try the 'via ferrata' traversing the cliffs at the Marqueyssac gardens or visit one of a number of high wire 'air parks'!
For those keen to spend a whole holiday cycling or walking, April, May, early June, September and October are preferable to July and August when it can be very hot.
Meyrals village with it's ancient heart, benefits from a boulangerie, charcuterie, post office, bar, 2 restaurants and a number of art galleries as well as a weekly market during July and August. Within a 10 minute drive are several more restaurants. 3 miles from Meyrals is the small town of St. Cyprien where there is a supermarket and, on Sunday mornings throughout the year, one of the best markets in the area!
