Apartment | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Luxurious, interior-designed 3,000 sq ft penthouse apartment that makes up the top 2 floors of an imposing Napoleonic building in the heart of St Claude, France. Nestled in the Jura mountains and just an hour from Geneva Airport, it is a quick and easy weekend getaway and perfect for walking or cycling (skiing 20 mins drive away). The Jura also offers canyoning, fishing, paragliding and climbing in an idyllic setting (waterfalls galore!). It also benefits from being in the centre of a town of 12,000 with all the associated amenities (restaurants, tourist information, supermarket, hospital, cathedral and 8 patisseries!). The property is extremely quirky with a strong 70's retro feel (yeah baby!) and all mod cons. The 40ft+ lounge is on 4 levels with a large podium complete with bespoke Danish staircase, sunken seating area with fireplace and smoked glass surround, leather sofas to seat 12+ as well as 3 bedrooms (one with shower room) and a huge bathroom with chocolate brown sunken bath, twin sinks and separate shower. Has to be seen to be believed - a perfect place to chill out between adventures.

About this location
The Franche-Comte region
The Franche Comte region borders Switzerland and shares much of its architecture, cuisine, and culture with its neighbor. Between the Vosges range of mountains to the north and the Jura (Gaulish word meaning 'forest') range to the south, the landscape consists of rolling cultivated fields, dense pine forest and ramparts like mountains. Not as majestic as the Alps, the Jura mountains are more accessible and are France's first cross-country skiing area. It is also a superb place to hike, and there are some fine nature trails on the more gentle slopes. The Doubs and Loue valleys, with their timbered houses perched on stilts in the river, and the high valley of Ain, are popular visitor areas. The Région des Lacs is a land of gorges and waterfalls dotted with tiny villages, each with a domed belfry decorated with mosaic of tiles or slates or beaten from metal. The lakes are perfect for swimming in the warmer months. The summits of Haute Jura have wonderful views across Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) and towards the Alps.
Saint Claude, the capital of smoking-pipe making and diamond cutting, is located in the heart of the Haut-Jura Natural Park, where the Bienne and Tacon rivers meet and only 40k from Geneva Airport. Saint Claude is the ideal environment for summer as well as winter activities. As the main city of the ski area of Hautes Combes du Jura and close to the ski resort of Les Rousses, it provides both cross-country and downhill skiing. Saint Claude is a good departure point to discover the Jura Mountains.
The skillful craftsmen keep the tradition of their work alive and some even open their workshop doors to the public (pipe-making, sculpture on pipe, artisanal diamond-cutting...).
