La Siagne
About the home
Whilst the kettle is boiling you can fetch the croissants and then breakfast on the south facing upper terrace which overlooks the gorge and forest and in the distance, the Bay of St. Tropez. The lower terrace is shaded and adjoins a garden containing orange trees, it is perfect for private sunbathing and BBQs.
Accommodation is on three floors with good beds and furniture, (no sofa beds or futons) and the one single, one double and one triple bedrooms are all en suite with modern bathroom fittings and heated towel rails. The largest bedroom easily accommodates a double and single bed and the esuite bathroom has a modern bath with shower over, basin and toilet. The other en suites have showers, basins and toilets and there is a fourh basin and toilet in the utility room on the ground floor. The sociable living area is well equipped, furnished and decorated which together with the open plan dining area and kitchen would make the house suitable for anyone living there permanently, it is much more than just a holiday home.
As winter daytime temperatures can be mild, winter holidays and breaks are possible as the house is also centrally heated and double glazed. In the evening you can settle down to a nice meal, a glass of wine and a good book or dvd if you do not want to go out although the village bars and restaurants are so close you can be ' home' within five minutes of paying the bill.
If you would like to see more photographs of the house and area, or need additional information please send an e-mail via the 'contact owner' section of this website and I will gladly oblige by return.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region

Possibly only six or seven hours by air from your own front door but probably a million miles away from what you have left behind, allowing you to experience the background hum of French life providing you with a sense of wellbeing and maybe a little smugness at having discovered such a great location. Hot summers and warm daytime winter temperatures are partly why this area of France remains such a popular destination. But whether you visit for the climate, the relaxed way of living, the food and wine, the historic hill villages, the art galleries and museums, the chic St. Tropez and Cannes or just that the budget airlines can fly you here quickly and cheaply, you will not be disappointed. A few words here are insufficient to capture everything there is to see and do and it is more interesting to explore for oneself, you will not be disappointed.
The Saint Cezaire-sur-Siagne area
If you love France as much as the owners of this village house and other visitors for the past four years we know you will not be disappointed with La Siagne, the name of our house located behind the large 1720 Church which is the centrepiece of the village. St Cezaire is on the Route Napoleon and about 35 - 40 minutes inland from Cannes although the difference between the coastal towns and the village is incomparable. This ancient village is situated 300 meters above the river Siagne winding between steep cliffs and old terraced olive groves over which the back of the house looks. A 12th century chapel a short walk from the house is said to have been a storage place for the harvest for Caeser during his reign and the Grottes de St. Cezaire are a network of caves which were discovered at the beginning of the 20th century and are the best known in the region.
Numerous activities, fetes, festivals, markets and other celebrations take place in the village belying its comparatively small population. There is a tennis club, horse riding and of course the mandatory boules pitches found everywhere in France. Bars and restaurants, a pharmacy, two butchers, a grengrocers, three bakers, a post office, newsagents, gift shop, antique shop, a bank and a tourist office are all within two to three minutes walk of our front door. St Cezaire sur Siagne is small, well kept, traditional and non touristy with a superb Saturday morning market, evening craft markets in the summer and other frequent celebratory events.
Contradictorally, walking and relaxing are two of the best pursuits to follow although a trip to Cannes or the more inland mountainous areas with other attractive hill villages is certainly worth while, time permitting. Grasse, which is a 20 minute drive away is famed for its perfumeries, free tours are available and the 'old town' is well worth a visit, Italy is a two hour drive, Monaco ninety minutes, St Tropez one hour and skiing at Greolieres forty five minutes. Hikers or for the less fit, walkers can enjoy the many trails which pass through the village and beyond although a gentle stroll round the village is also very pleasurable. The village tourist office www.saintcezairesursiagne.fr; email ot@saintcezairesursiagne.fr - telephone 0033 4 93 60 84 30 has English speaking staff who are extremely helpful, their web site is worth a look for further information about the village and region. Lac de Saint Cassien which is 20 minutes from the village is noted for its superb Carp and Pike fishing and the leisure activities which take place there throughout the summer.

It was our second year on the trot to La Saigne, this time with little seven month old Harry in tow. Staying for two weeks this time allowed us to explore more of the village and it didn't fail to disappoint us. The house offers everything you need whether you stay around the village, head off to the beach or sight seeing around the local area. The house was very clean and comfortable, with stunning views from the terrace. We found the locals very helpful even with our lack of the French language !!! Had a great holiday and was sorry to leave. Response: Hopefully 'little Harry' will also be coming back quite soon and quickly start to pick up some French language. Thanks for returning and for your positive and kind remarks. |

Lovely accomodation with many DVDs, CDs, books and games available to use. It is literally on the edge of the gorge with a 10m drop beyond the reasonably sturdy garden fence. We were pleased to find everything we wanted: utensils, trays, many glasses, lots of crockery, tupperware etc. It is very well located with the church, restaurants and village shops just a couple of minutes walk away. In spite of being a terrace no noise through the walls. We loved the local gorge walk, take your swimming things if you go down as there are some beautiful pools in the river. It took some playing to understand the oven but then I didn't look for instructions which I'm sure were supplied; all possible information needed is supplied in a very organised manner. If you have young children with no self preservation who climb fences beware (sensible ones no problem). There is a great selection of guide books, no need to buy your own. Great snorkelling to the west of Cannes. Helpful local tourist information. Response: The 'home from home' comment is often received, we regard it as a compliment especially when the home is in such a great location and someone else does the cleaning and laundry. |

This is a wonderful house in a beautiful setting, the owners have supplied everything. It is spotlessly clean and is very spacious. The village is a delight with fresh produce available each day within a minute of leaving the house. A car is essential to visit the many places all within reasonable distance, such as Cannes, Grasse, St Tropez, Nice and many smaller beautiful villages. Restaurants and bars available within the village, just a short walk away. This house and location comes highly recommended, can't wait to return, the minute you step inside it feels like you haven't left home. relaxation to the highest degree. Delightful. Response: We work hard to try and ensure that guests feel the way you appear to about La Siagne, so your comments are very rewarding. |

July 09. We both enjoyed it so much; one of the most relaxing holidays we've had in a while.Have spoken warmly of the house and locality to friends and family so you never know you might get other bookings.
Martyn and Suzy, York.
August 09. The house and village were great so no complaints there and our only regret is that the time went so quickly. The local lake you mentioned is well worth the visit and I would recommend the trip. The water was clear and warm and there were facilities for the small and the not so small. Plenty of space on the shore even if parking spaces always seemed insufficient, we always found one. We never managed to complete more than a small proportion of our holiday plans, which is fine really as this leaves open the chance of a return visit. Alwyn, Norway
Sept 09.We loved La Siagne, the house, the town, the river - we hiked down and up twice which deserved a medal. When I can I'll send you the webpage for the jazz festival which was a huge success The house was nicer than we imagined and we thoroughly enjoyed all that sunshine on the deck eating bkfst and the water pressure up on the third floor was amazing. We may wish to return next summer if John wants to do jazz camp again but we don't yet have the dates but please keep us in mind. We can certainly see why you love the place. By the way your French neighbours were so sweet they passed us a bottle of their homemade aperitif! John and Leslie, NewYork.

July 10. Hi, Bryan. we have just arrived back in Australia from our overseas trip. We had an great time and everyone's favourite was France and St Cezaire. We spent a week near Epernay before driving south to your house and the weather was wonderful the whole time we were in France. We had plans to use your house as a base and travel around, but found that the village was so good we spent most of our time there. My son and I walked down to the river and had a swim. He jumped off the bridge with some locals but I chose to just watch. We loved your house and hope it was left in satisfactory order.Col Turner, New South Wales, Australia
July 10. The very first contact in St Cezaire was with a friendly lady who lead us to your fantastic house, lovely people, lovely village, a very nice place to stay. We bought a coffee machine (not really expensive) and left it in the house so coffee drinking Germans can brew their coffee in a familiar way. Stefan Zorn, Falkansee, Germany.

September 10. We had a really good time at La Siagne. The house is very well-equipped and we cooked many meals with fresh local produce and seafood! Thanks for all the information and advice provided, we had a walk down to the River La Siagne one day,. Met some really lovely neighbours, despite we cannot speak a word of French - except Merci! We could only express our gratitude to their help and kindness by saying 'Merci'. My parents met a couple in the village, and they invited them into the house and gave them tonnes of freshly ripened figs and home-made jams! Thanks for providing such a lovely home for us during our stay in France.
