About the home
A classic French house, set in established gardens, on three floors. The top floor is bedrooms, with the landing set out with settees. We often spend evenings here before we retire or in summer we open the barn window/door and have breakfast looking out across the orchards. The master bedroom (Captains) has a 6ft6" bed and has a figurehead of Nelson set in the exposed vaulted roof rafters, and nautical style furniture. The Bowsons bedroom ( with Bowsons figurehead) has a king size bed and a single day bed. The 'poop deck' has two single beds. The whole top floor has a nautical theme. The original owner was a seafarer and there are many artifacts from his travels. It is a very cosy area( with tv,dvd & music centre). The basement has utility and bathroom facilities. The main floor has a bathroom, a double bedroom( with single bed as well). The kitchen is well equipped and has a large table and chairs (seats 8). A balcony lays along the front of the house, we often sit here before dinner watching the world go by. The lounge is layed to the side of the house with views over the estuary, the garden and orchards to the rear. An open fire & ample seating, (with English TV ,DVD player & music centre). There is also a dining table that seats ten comfortably. Highchair, cot & stairgate avaiable.

Further details indoors:
The house is set on the old Roman road, on a bend, at the top of the hill,
as the road whines its way from the old port alongside the estuary towards Crehen.
At the bottom of the hill (a minutes walk) are bars and restaurants on either side of the bridge.
All rooms in the house are large and as we live here some months of the year, its well equipped.
We have had small functions in the garden as its a good size, and it is fenced off, so children can play safely.
The tempation here is to be too busy sightseeing and not relax and enjoy the lovely house and gardens.
We suggest you have a day sightseeing and then the next day relaxing here.
Further details outdoors:
The gardens extend around the house, the slope runs gently from the rear of the house, past the pine trees towards the orchards, with a grassed area before the hedge and an Apple and May tree for shade. There is a sheltered patio area with furniture and firepit. We personally spend a lot of evenings here. There is a french external oven and barbecues for your use.
If you are a hiker or just like a stroll, then you can set out from the house in all directions.
A stroll down the hill and around the castle will be little more than an hours walk. Or set out and walk the coast of the peninsula that is St Jacut de la Mer and it is the best part of a days walk.

The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

The coast along this section of northern Brittany is as beautiful as can be found anywhere in Europe.
The section between the bay of Mont St Michel, up to the Fort la Latte on the Rose Granite coast is littered with sandy bays and rocky outcrops, fishing villages and coastal towns. Some hundreds of years in existance with old churches and grand houses and chateaus. Golden beaches, rocky coves and iles have made this coast a magnet for tourists and hikers and the Paris 'elete'. Whilst hundreds of years ago it would have been traders from across the world and smugglers and pirates, St Malo is famed for all of these and has been classed as the most important port in europe for many centuries.
The Saint Cast le Guildo / Le Guildo area
The area around Le Guildo is now rural and peaceful, however the 12th Century castle in the elbow of the estuary is testiment to the activity the port here has seen. The Gilles de Brettan ruled this reigion and took levy on any craft that used the port, as did the Romans before them . The peninsular of St Jacut de la Mer is most beautiful ( eleven beaches) and offers wonderful views, its well worth searching out hidden beaches here. Or take a day and walk the whole coast, its worth the effort. Here you are in the centre of a wonderful stretch of coast and fascinating old towns, you really need not travel more than a few miles to find all that northen Brittany offers.

As a large family group finding the right accommodation is most important. I can say that we found everything we wanted here. The house was clean and in good order, it is 3 bedroom with extra single beds on the top landing, where there is settees, tv and music centre. It was used a lot by our teeenagers when they wanted to watch a dvd or just get away from us oldies. The large kitchen with balcony maent I was not alone as with the window open those on the balcony could keep me company while I was cooking and I could keep them in supply of cold beer from the fridge. The garden is established and child friendly, we did BBQ a fair bit so I got some rest. The coast here is beautiful, with so many beaches to chose from, the little ones where in seventh heaven as the beaches are never crowded. The towns are like time warps, so clean and well kept, a joy to walk around in and the markets are great for local produce. Suggestion-- St Malo( pirate) walled city, by the ferry terminal, do walk around the walls, really a great day out, or Dinan is a wonderful place, again walk the walls great views. Beaches-- St Cast was my favourite beach, although there are many, it's large and safe with a great walk way to the marina, and a lovely play area in the town centre. There are loads of good places for lunch, although we would picnic and dine in of an evening as evening dining can be expense. I hope you visit this place, we all loved it and will be back. |
