Home description
Authentic 12th century Templar Castle set on more than 11 acres of fossil rich land, in the heart of Haute Provence. Secluded on its own knoll, yet only 100 km from Nice and the Cote d'Azur, and two kilometres from the town of Saint Andre les Alpes, come and enjoy total luxury, in our officially rated five-star apartments. Ideal for three to four families, the castle boasts a large 14m x 7m heated private pool overlooking the lake, an inbuilt bbq and plenty of space to enjoy. Within the château are three luxurious independant apartments, each with its own kitchen, living room, and six luxurious bathrooms. On the grounds of the Château stands the medieval church dedicated to Saint Martin, amid the ruins of houses that have blended with the wild limestone landscape. The chateau can be rented exclusively or by single apartment for groups from 2 to 18.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region
Provence has been described so many times, it is hard to do yet another description of this jewel in the French crown. Better to go and see films like Russel Crowe's "A Good Year" or read Peter Mayle's "A Year in Provence"
However, our area of Provence is known as 'the Secret Alps of Provence', rich with nature's beauty and not far from France's Grand Canyon, the Gorges du Verdon. The region is famous for its fossils from prehistoric times (protecting it by official decree from modern-day development) and its hot sulphur springs, such as those at Digne-les-Bains, making it the ideal destination for those interested in prehistory as well as those seeking a 'cure'. The region and our captivating château will ensure a memorable and relaxing stay in France's picturesque and enchanting southeast.
Saint Andre les Alpes area
Saint Andre is a typical large Provencal village with plenty of cafes and bistros on the town square, and many markets selling local produce. You will also find numerous restaurants either in the village or close by, including some with some Michelin stars. There is also a supermarket, an ATM and gas stations. You will also find the charming Train des Pignes, a narrow gauge mounatin train that meanders from Nice up to Digne through the very picturesque mountains. The train station is just outside the village. Finally, Saint Andre les Alpes is renowned for its extreme sports: there is a paragliding school where numerous international competitions take place, plus lots of mountain climbing, white water rafting, horse riding, water sports and hiking in and around the village. For the more sedate sports, you will find tennis courts, a mini golf and poney rides in the village.
How to get there
Th best way is to fly into Nice, and rent a car from Nice Airport to Saint Andre les Alpes. There are ample international hire car companies available. EasyJet flies into Nice from London, as well as most of the major carriers (BA, AF, LH etc.) Alternatively, via public transport, take the TGV to Aix en Provence, then bus to Digne les Bains, from Digne, take the narrow gauge "Train des Pignes" to Saint Andre les Alpes. From Nice, take directly the narrow gauge "Train des Pignes" right up to Saint Andre les Alpes

Guestbook
OK I knew before we came round the hill where to find the castle in the distance. I pointed it out to the children. It was a beautiful sight, majestic and splendid in the far sunlight and a memory that I will never forget. It has a fantastic location and the children were fair squealing with delight.

Hi, We had a wonderful stay in your beautiful home and I only wish my own home looked as grand. The bathrooms were out of this world.
