With a log fire, under floor heating, dishwasher, cable TV and a large, sunny balcony/terrace with outdoor furniture, visitors will be very comfortable, day or night, summer or winter. A wellness area with a jacuzzi and sauna located on the same level as this apartment is available for all residents to soothe tired muscles after the day's activities.

The apartment is very conveniently located, only a short stroll (100m) from the nearest bakery/cafe, butcher, supermarkets (4 in the village), pharmacy, cheese shop, ski hire shops, clothes shops, bars, clubs and restaurants. The bakeries and butchers in Saas Fee are wonderful, and you can order meat before you go skiing, to collect it at the end of the day. Everything you need is on your doorstep.

The Swiss Alps / Valais/Swiss Alps region

Saas Fee is given the name "the Pearl of the Alps" because no less than 13 four-thousand meter peaks surround the village. This traditional 'chocolate box' village is the perfect year round resort with skiing in winter and summer on the Allalin Glacier, and many other outdoor activities. Many international ski teams use the Saas Fee glacier to train in the summer, so the resort is busy all year.

The Saas Valley is located in the south of Switzerland on the Italian border and is at a similar latitude to the well-known resorts of Locarno and Ascona in the Ticino. The climate is southerly and evenly-balanced despite the high altitude (Saas Fee is at 1800m) and has rich, and sometimes Mediterranean alpine flora. The northerly facing ski slopes of Saas Fee ensure a long ski season, and visitors to the Saas Valley will enjoy around 300 days of sunshine a year - ensuring much sunshine for skiing and hiking. Saas Fee is car-free, and that together with the high altitude means you will have fresh, clean air every day.

Glacier skiing takes you up to 3600m and the north facing slope guarantees snow when other resorts are struggling. And if you are very keen, the resort of Zermatt is approximately 1hr by car away for skiing.

Settlements in the Saas Valley date back to the days of the Celts and the first towns were founded by the Romans for trade with Italy. Saas Valley inhabitants have suffered much hardship, but to this day retain many traditions that you will see at the festivals and parades. Tourism in the valley began gradually in 1830 but a road to Saas Fee was not constructed until 1951. Traditional huts and sheds, some still used to house livestock over the winter can be seen all over the Saas Valley.

Saas Fee area

Whether you want to indulge in a little après-ski or enjoy a gentle stroll, whether you want to join in a game of curling or a night-time sledding run, there is every kind of entertainment in the Saas Valley! All year-round you will have a chance to experience:

·Mountain festivals
·Sports activities
·Shopping
·Eating and drinking

There are so many activities for the whole family, whether you are skiing or not. Wonderful walks can be started straight from the village, and range from historical trails such as the Monte Rosa Tour, to adventure trails with high, rope bridges and gentle alpine flower walks. Chalet Castello apartment is 100m from the Hannig chairlift that takes you up to a sun terrace, restaurant and the start of a sledging, hiking and scooter trail - suitable for all the family with sledges and scooters for hire at the lift station.

Saas Fee has many shops and restaurants serving local wines and produce, and for those with more energy after skiing or boarding all day, there are nightclubs and bars to take you into the night.

For snowboarders, Saas Fee is fabulous, there is an extensive dedicated snowpark for boarders with bars on the mountain to take a well-earned rest.

The Saas Valley is an ideal family holiday area. In Summer 2005 Saastal was awarded the quality-seal title of «Families Welcome» from the Swiss tourist board. Holiday destinations holding this title are guaranteed to offer everything and anything that a family might wish for from a holiday location. The activities available year-round will ensure you and your family will enjoy every moment. Your children are in a safe, secure area and can run around freely in the open.

With new and upgraded lift systems being built each year, you won't be short of things to do in Saas Fee, and whether you are an absolute beginner or an expert skiing you will be well catered for on the slopes.

Why don't you try:
·Skiing & Snowboarding
·Hiking
·Glacier walking
·Tennis
·Mountain bike riding
·Ice skating
·Ice climbing
·Wild flower walking trails
·Children's activities, day trips and outings
·Swimming pool

And for those days and nights when the weather closes in the apartment has a log fire to while away the evenings over red wine.
