The Officer's House
About the home
Formerly the billet for the Officer of the Dragoons stationed there it has a secret coastal garden and decking area with outdoor dining. Comfortably the biggest house in the village it sleeps 8 in unashamed luxury and is probably the nicest holiday home for many miles around. Oak floors, open fire in the drawing room, separate TV and dining room with 4 generous double bedrooms upstairs, family bathroom and master en suite. We genuinely couldn’t make it any more comfortable if we tried.

Further details indoors:
The look and feel of The Officers House is relaxed luxury that’s as practical as it is comfortable. Every room has been carefully designed to make the most of the space whilst not destroying the aesthetics of the Georgian layout. With a central corridor acting as a spine that runs from the front lobby to the breakfast room, each room is beautifully decorated in muted Farrow and Ball colours that don’t detract the eye. Under foot you’ll find oak boards throughout the ground floor (heated in the kitchen) only broken by a classic coir rug in the drawing room in front of the marble surrounded open fire.
Further details outdoors:
With the help of a fantastic local garden designer we set about creating a seaside garden that was not only in keeping with the location but would require little if any watering. Planted only a year ago the garden is still in its infancy but already overwhelming us with it’s natural beauty.
A mixture of shingle, decking and paving stones lets you meander around the planting. To the side and the rear of the house is an enclosed and secluded private garden with teak seating and dining table alongside a BBQ area. This is a particularly magical place to spend an evening, looking up into the enormous star filled skies, helped by the lack of street lighting in the village.
To the front and alongside the small private drive lies a much larger planting area that helps separate the house from the surrounding square. Sunken into this bed lies a small paved area with garden bench surrounded by tall grasses, aliums and interesting shrubs that we hope one day will become a natural oasis in the warm summer sun – the perfect place to take a mug of tea after a long walk on the beach.

The South East England / Sussex region

Discover Rye & the surrounding area
In recent years the beautiful sea-fort town has slowly become just a little bit more cosmopolitan but without losing any of it's endearing old world charm.
The town is perched high on a bluff over looking the salt marshes below. Ever since Norman times the town's history has been one of invasion and resistance standing firm against the winds of change that have swept across the Channel or over the marshlands and meadows that hold the rest of England at bay.
Once sitting right on the coast Henry VIII thought it a sensible place to build one of his impregnable gun fortresses to halt the annoying French approaches but the seas so quickly receded that even before it could be occupied in anger it was marooned in the fields soon to be surrounded by grazing sheep - now the hauntingly beautiful Camber Castle in the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The steep cobbled streets are lined with enticing shops and buildings straight off a period Hollywood set (it's a yet to be denied rumour that Johnny Depp was so taken by the place he bought one himself).
If you are looking for a bit more activity and adventure then the coastal nature reserve at Rye Harbour is English big-sky country at its best, with a chance of a seal-spotting in the Harbour as a bonus on your blustery walk. Here you can literally get lost in the myriad of paths that criss cross the marshes peppered with stunning lagoons, the home to it seems, virtually every sea bird common to our shores. And if walking isn't your thing, just hire a bike from Rye Hire in the town and peddle your way around the freedom and space of the pancake flat marshes.

Guestbook for The Officer's House
Some nice things past customers have said about the Officers House
We all had a fantastic time! You have done a spectacular job...we really loved your garden, it's a lovely finishing touch to a really special property. Thank you.
B and family, June 2009
Many thanks for all your assistance in helping to ensure my weekend away was a success. I sincerely had a wonderful time and would like to personally thank you for all your help.
Liam and family, May 2009
We absolutely loved the beautiful house and garden! The birdsong was a great tonic coming down from London...and we loved walking in the nature reserve, it was really uplifting to the soul. I think the only thing we struggled with was leaving by 10am. You are lucky to have found such a fabulous property and have really made so much from it.
Adrienne and family, May 2009
Such a comfortable and elegant house. Beautifully decorated, we were impressed by the standard you've done everything to. We had a most enjoyable time with great walks and look forward to coming again.
Dee and family, May 2009
We have just spent 5 glorious days at The Officers House in Rye. The accommodation was perfect. The house had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. Olive our dog settled in immediately and loved the long walks and bracing sea air. We have returned home feeling happy and refreshed. A real holiday.
