Sea Kale
About the home
From the moment you arrive we have tried to make the cottage feel totally at home with its surroundings. Somewhere you’d feel comfortable entering with sandy feet after a long day at the beach. Simply furnished and decorated in whites throughout with blue accents and colourful prints on the walls to add a splash of colour. Each room has some seaside/nautical curio to remind you of its location, old photographs of the area and original driftwood sculptures of birds and fishes from a local artist.

Further details indoors:
With views of the sea from the top floor, a narrow pebble beach as a garden to the rear Sea Kale cottage has a sea side feel with whitewash bare wooden floors and furnished simply in whites and light blues. There’s a good sized double aspect open plan sitting room, with open fire place, leading to a modern kitchen and double doors to the outside. Upstairs there are 3 very comfortable double bedrooms and a gleaming white bathroom with laundry and airing cupboard.
Further details outdoors:
The cottage is located at the end of an unmade track with an eclectic collection of houses either side. Sea Kale sits in its own little track off this, in between an identical cottage and barn. The house is literally on the doorstep of the nature reserve and is about 4 minutes walk from the river frontage, boat slip and village pub. The village shop is conveniently at the end of the track (2 minutes) and the main entrance to the nature reserve that surrounds us and the path to the beach are only 4 minutes by foot. From here there lies many miles of paths and beach to explore, either by foot or by bike. The historic old town of Rye and enormous sandy beach of Camber are 5 and 8 minutes away by car.

We don't believe renting our homes is over the minute we take your deposit, for us it's only just beginning. We want to ensure you have the best stay possible and help to suggest what you and your party can get up to before you arrive. With every booking we send out our 'INSIDERS GUIDE TO RYE' which lists everything we think is worth visiting, whatever the weather - most of it personally vetted by us. From this you can decide BEFORE YOU ARRIVE what sort of things you would like to get up to and not, as is often the case, discover this on the last day of your holiday. We call it the 'Home from home' experience, like having your own holiday home, but without the hassle.

The South East England / Sussex region

Discover Rye & the surrounding area
In recent years the beautiful sea-fort town has slowly become just a little bit more cosmopolitan but without losing any of it's endearing old world charm.
The town is perched high on a bluff over looking the salt marshes below. Ever since Norman times the town's history has been one of invasion and resistance standing firm against the winds of change that have swept across the Channel or over the marshlands and meadows that hold the rest of England at bay.
Once sitting right on the coast Henry VIII thought it a sensible place to build one of his impregnable gun fortresses to halt the annoying French approaches but the seas so quickly receded that even before it could be occupied in anger it was marooned in the fields soon to be surrounded by grazing sheep - now the hauntingly beautiful Camber Castle in the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The steep cobbled streets are lined with enticing shops and buildings straight off a period Hollywood set (it's a yet to be denied rumour that Johnny Depp was so taken by the place he bought one himself).
If you are looking for a bit more activity and adventure then the coastal nature reserve at Rye Harbour is English big-sky country at its best, with a chance of a seal-spotting in the Harbour as a bonus on your blustery walk. Here you can literally get lost in the myriad of paths that criss cross the marshes peppered with stunning lagoons, the home to it seems, virtually every sea bird common to our shores. And if walking isn't your thing, just hire a bike from Rye Hire in the town and peddle your way around the freedom and space of the pancake flat marshes.

Guestbook for Sea Kale
Some nice things past customers have said about Seakale
We had the most wonderful time at Seakale - what a lovely house and what a great spot! It had everything that we needed for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of London life! It was so nice not to hear traffic and to wake up to the sound of birds. My 5yr old commented that she'd life to stay forever! We've all been racking our brains on things that could have been improved and we've only come up with one thing - we wished we could have stayed longer! We will be definitely visiting again!
D and family, June 09
Seakale was an absolute delight: we loved the house with its nautical themed colour scheme, luxurious bathroom and beds. We felt completely at home: Seakale was quiet, warm, cozy, comfortable and stylish, and had everything we needed.
MMW, May 2009
Beautiful cottage and we loved the nature reserve and Dungeness in particular - thanks for the tip. Also Seakale was so child friendly which was brilliant for us.
CS and family, May 09
Thank you for helping to organise such a fun time during our weeks stay at SeaKale. Getting to know about all the things to do in the area before we arrived was so useful, we felt like locals even before we arrived. We all want to become pro Kite Surfers having spent the afternoon watching the 'dudes' practising their tricks at Camber! Next time perhaps.
Ingrid and kids, Jan 2009
Such a comfortable and elegant house. Beautifully decorated, we were impressed by the standard you've done everything to. We had a most enjoyable time with great walks and look forward to coming again.
