The South East England / Sussex region
South East England is a region rich in experiences. It has something to offer every age group and every traveller. Awash with History and Heritage and an abundance of castles, gardens, museums, cathedrals and country houses set amid stunning coastline, picturesque market towns and traditional English villages. Discover a hidden Sussex; unique windmills, award-winning vineyards, steam trains, quaint market towns, laid-back beach life, miles of walks including the South Downs Way and of course 1066 Country, a spectacular combination of coast and countryside that's littered with relics and ruins from the Norman invasion
Rye area
Rye is an intriguing town to be explored and enjoyed on foot. The Villa is only a stones throw away from the well-known Landgate Arch, the only survivor of four gates built in 1392 as a defence against the French and still standing guard over the town today.
With a lively history and unique ambience the town is peppered with beautifully preserved ancient buildings, art galleries, museums, delightful teashops and quirky restaurants and pubs. Adults and children alike will be fascinated with the town’s history of pirates and smugglers, not forgetting Captain Pugwash whose creator John Ryan lives here. When you have explored the cobbled higgledy-piggledy streets and enjoyed browsing in the specialist shops venture out into the beautiful surrounding area.
Many bridlepaths, walking and cycling routes lead from the doorstep including the popular 1066 walk and endless golden sands at Camber (a Blue Flag beach) can be reached by a 2-mile cycle track. Venture further afield and you will find a multitude of fun things for families to do. All the excitement of sun, sea and sand with a generous measure of fun parks, steam trains, wildlife parks, a shipwreck museum, sealife centres, fairytale castles and a famous battle site all thrown in for your added enjoyment.
