About the home

Gingerbread Granary is a quaint detached cottage ideally placed to take advantage of all that the beautiful county of Kent has to offer. It has much character and is in good condition throughout with seating on the private patio area.

The setting is wonderful and the Gingerbread is surrounded by three quarters of an acre of landscaped gardens which it shares with one other cottage. This area has a slide, stream and picnic bench and a path leads over a charming wooden bridge to the wonderfully peaceful meadow with koi/carp lake and tennis court, beyond. The perfect base for your self catering holiday.

We would ask because of the stream and lake that all children be supervised at all times.

Accommodation at Gingerbread Granary is as follows. The front door leads into an entrance hall with stairs to the first floor. A door leads into the kitchen with electric cooker, microwave and fridge, with an archway (mind your head!) leading into the sitting room with electric log fire and sofas and chair grouped around the 21” Freeview TV. There is dining for 4 and patio doors lead onto the private garden with seating . A door from this room leads into the bathroom with bath, electric shower over, wc and basin, and utility cupboard housing the washing machine.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms in the eaves (please note there is restricted head height). The main bedroom has double bed, bedside tables and lamps and Bedroom 2 is a twin room with bedside table and lamp.

Outside, guests have the use of the landscaped gardens with communal charcoal barbeque, stream, slide, picnic bench, together with the tennis court and lake in the meadow area. There is parking on the shared driveway.

All heating charges are included in the rental. Short breaks of 2, 3 or 4 nights available at a cost of 75% of the weekly rental. Booking fee of £26.40 is payable.

The Rye / Ruckinge area

Gingerbread Granary is close to the village of Ruckinge with its popular village pub (about 5 minutes walk away). The village itself is on the very edge of Romney Marsh beloved of artists for its wonderful skies and with walkers and bird watchers for the variety of wild life in a marshland area that has hardly changed since medieval times.

The long sandy beaches of this part of Kent are within a twenty minute drive where the sand stretches as far as the eye can see. There are many water sports available and it’s a great place to visit all year round. Details of water sports lessons are available on the ‘things to do’ section of our website. For children the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Light Steam Railway that winds its way along the coast is a truly special day out – or a way to get to the beach as it stops in several spots very close by!

For golfers there are some wonderful links courses at Littlestone, Rye and Sandwich. Tenterden and Rye are both within a few miles where individual shops and boutiques, coffee shops and antique fairs make them a lovely place to explore during your stay.
