The villa was built in the early 1800's for the then Duke of Buckingham and Chandos. In 1811, George Nugent-Temple Grenville, the first Marquis of Buckingham, took a long lease on the house as a holiday home, naming it Buckingham Cottage. He sold the property in 1844, when Buckingham Cottage and Fountain Cottage (now the Coach House) sold at auction for £3,600! Nowadays, the main house is known as Buckingham Villa and is divided into four apartments. 5 Buckingham Villa, also known as The Cottage, is believed to have been the servants quarters for the big house.

The property is situated in a tucked away area of Ryde, just moments away from lovely sandy beaches. The accommodation is arranged over two floors comprising two bedrooms, a characterful lounge with beamed ceiling and balcony overlooking your private gardens, dining/breakfast room, kitchen, utility room, bathroom and shower room. Outside, there are private gardens to the rear and side, which feature an old 'ice house'. A lovely old property with lots of history and being so easily accessible to all the local attractions and amenities.

Entrance Hall - With stairs off to 1st floor and doors leading off to kitchen, dining/breakfast room, shower room and double bedroom.

Kitchen - Fitted kitchen with plenty of workspace and doorway through to:

Utility Room - A useful room, ideal for sandy clothes or shoes and with door to rear gardens.

Dining/Breakfast Room - A lovely bright room with French doors out to the rear gardens.

Bedroom - A good sized double bedroom with vanity unit, dressing table, walk-in wardrobe, second wardrobe and drawers.

Shower Room - Comprising shower cubicle, vanity unit with wash basin and wc.

First Floor

Landing with doors off to:

Lounge - A room full of character with beamed ceiling and a log burning stove (converted to gas) forming a lovely focal point to the room. There is also a more formal dining table and French doors leading out to the balcony, which overlooks your private gardens.

Bedroom - A twin room with wardrobe, drawers and vanity unit.

Bathroom - Comprising panelled bath, pedestal wash basin and wc. Strip light with shaver point.

(There is also a third bedroom but please note that this room is used for storage and will be kept locked during your stay).

Outside - There are mature gardens to the rear and side of the home. Here you will find areas of lawn, mature shrubs and bushes and a patio area with table and chairs - great for enjoying breakfast or a spot of al-fresco dining during those warm Summer evenings. In addition there is a Summer House where you will find a barbecue and additional garden furniture. You will also find an old 'ice house' - used for the storage of ice prior to the invention of the refrigerator...
