The Lake District

The Lake District National Park contains almost every feature of mountain scenery, verdant valleys, major lakes, lesser-known " tarns ", majestic waterfalls, beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. It is the largest National Park in England and has been so since 1951. Famous for its mountains, including the famous Helvellyn and Sca Fell Pike - the highest peak in England (3210 ft), the area provides a real challenge for climbers or a relaxing break in the fresh air and glorious outdoors.

Lake Windermere is situated in the heart of England's National Parkland in the beautiful lake district, famous for its lofty peaks and tranquil lakes and sheer beauty. There are 16 lakes and over 500 secluded tarns all set in magnificent countryside. Windermere, the longest lake, stretches for over 10 miles.

Ambleside, one of the pearls of the Lake District, is set in the centre of the region at the head of Lake Windermere. This lively market town provides everything a visitor could want – from the many shops offering wares for walkers and climbers to the many eating and drinking establishments and a wonderful small cinema with its own restaurant. Ambleside is 2 mile from the property.

The town is rich in history and heritage. Originally containing a Roman fort Ambleside has always been an important area of the Lake District. Buildings such as the 17th-century Bridge House, one of the smallest houses in Britain, and the Ambleside Museum (home to many Beatrix Potter artefacts) offer visitors an insight into local life in bygone days. Nearby Stock Ghyll Force, a beautiful waterfall, provides another stunning natural feature.

"Lovely cottage in perfect position"

The position of Hallbank is perfect as there is so much to do nearby without driving: Rydal Mount with its lovely garden, the tea shop at Rydal Hall and Rydal lake are all a short walk . There is a lovely organic teashop by the lake in an old farm house which does delicious food. The coffin walk is a stones throw away, as is the Fairfield Horseshoe which my husband and sons climbed one day. We walked to the famous Ambleside Sports which was very enjoyable. Everywhere the views are beautiful. The house is also comfortable, full of character and very tastefully decorated. We would highly recommend a stay here as it is well located for visiting the region yet is quiet and feels a long way from the crowds in Ambleside and Grasmere.
