This is real Sound of Music country - why not take the Sound of Music tour? With picture postcard alpine scenery - lakes, mountains and rivers - it is a truly beautiful part of the world. Also the cultural highlight of Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart and a haven for classical music enthusiasts.
The Russbach area
Russbach, famous as valley of the fossils, is a small hamlet surrounded by mountains. there are mountain restaurants and bars /gasthof in the village. There is a tourist office, bank, supermarket and village shop, plus petrol station. Natural waterpark in village centre in summer. Organised Trout fishing Spring-Autum too.
The cable car for skiing starts in the village and links to two other villages. Cable car operates in summer also 3 days per week. Ideal for that mountain top lunch, get the views without the effort. For hiking and mountain bikers there are many organised trails or walks. Rock climbing is also catered for. Other summer activities include white water rafting, paragliding, waterskiing. There is also Summer Skiing on the Dachstein Glacier! ( not August)
In the summer there is a waterpark for kids in the village too. There is a 3 km summer toboggan ride in Abtenau, 10 min drive away.The Austrian lake district is a 30 min drive away as well as the world heritage site village of Hallstadt which has the oldest saltmine in the world. It's a great family attraction with slides inside the mine etc. In Autumn the weather can be super and each village holds harvest festivals.

Wonderfully built house. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet and surrounding areas. Al ready planning to revisit. Suited our family needs perfectly and good local food too! |
