This is a unique unusual privately owned luxury self-catering lodge in Chichester, set on the edge of a lake. You get a beautiful scenic tranquil holiday yet only 5 minutes drive to the centre of Chichester city. It sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms and free parking. The 3rd bedroom is partitioned off the lounge, has 2 single beds and is completely private only when the kitchen door is closed. Much better than a sleeper couch and it has fantastic views of the lake from 4 windows, plus direct access onto the deck!

It is not licenced but there is The Kingfisher Bar on site. Bring your own wine/champagne to be kept in the fridge and you are provided with glasses to enjoy your evenings under the stars on the large deck right on the edge of the lake. Swans in the moonlight are a magical sight.

This does not fit into a typical lodge category. Décor is eclectic sophistication in a rustic setting with interesting pieces from around the world. It is within Chichester Lakeside Holiday Park. Not your scene? Don't worry! Drive past the mobile homes to reach the edge of the lake where the lodges are. Once there it is very peaceful, almost like being in a nature reserve and there is a fabulous view from the large wooden deck on the water's edge. There are 3 cosy double bedrooms and you will be treated as special guests. The tranquil lake edge setting and bird life is what attracts guests. Imagine being able to enjoy your meals al fresco on the deck in good weather.

Guests have access to come and go as they please.

Lake Birds Lodge was newly opened as a Bed and Breakfast in May 2012 by Heather Dellar, who previously owned “La Quercia” and “Villa Cappelli” bed and breakfast guest accommodation in Johannesburg, South Africa. Heather speaks a little Italian and French and enjoys meeting guests from overseas or locally.

The wooden lodge by design has cosy but modern bedrooms and has been furnished to make you as comfortable as possible. Guests love to sit on the large south-facing wooden deck and chill while watching the ducks and geese glide by. There is a guest lounge with views of the lake.

The West Sussex region

SOUTH EAST ENGLAND

This is in the middle of the south of England, being one of the most popular tourist destinations.

It boasts the 3 C's - City, Coast and Countryside - something for everybody.

Chichester is an ideal base for touring many places nearby.

EAST

Arundel: Castle, Cathedral and Wetland Centre. Stroll along the pretty tree lined stream below the castle.

Brighton: The vibes of "Little London". Don't miss the Royal Pavilion and The Lanes shopping and cafes.

WEST

Portsmouth: Historic naval city. Visit the new Mary Rose museum, D Day Museum and see Nelson's HMS Victory. Ferry and hovercraft trips take you to the Isle of Wight or France.

INLAND

The South Downs National Park is yours to explore. What about historic homes like Petworth House or The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum.

HORSES

Cowdray Park is famous for polo.

Horse racing is nearby at Goodwood and Fontwell Racecourses.

Runcton

CHICHESTER

The Romans were here - you can see the ancient walls and marvel at the mosaics in Fishbourne Roman Palace. No need to even mention Chichester Cathedral - you can't miss it.

Facilities on site in Lakeside Holiday Park:

Small shop, cafe, bar, free Wi-Fi, laundromat, outdoor heated pool (in summer). There is entertainment every night in season and visiting cabaret acts on Saturday nights.

Of course, you do not need to partake of any of that. Enjoy your private peaceful paradise and treat yourself to gourmet delights and local fresh produce at nearby Runcton Farm Shop. When you have chilled, then venture out.

Shopaholic? The Market Cross is at the crossroads of Chichester's pedestrianized shopping - boutiques, coffee shops and the usual high street stores alongside stalls with different themes and the occasional busker. Always lively.

Hungry? Try Raymond Blanc's Brasserie or my guests' favourite, The Walnut Tree Pub, which is a mere mile down the road (take your camera!) Restaurants for all tastes from Thai to Mexican.

Beach bum? Blue Flag beaches such as West Witterings, Hayling Island, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton or even Brighton.

Surfer? Witterings beach is 8 miles away.

Culture vulture? The Festival Theatre is of note. Guests tell me the restaurant is great for pre-theatre dinner.

Most popular events - people come from around the world so you really need to book very early -

Goodwood Festival of Speed (car racing) , Goodwood Revival (vintage), Glorious Goodwood (horse racing) are normally 10 minutes away but everybody is here then! So exciting!

Chichester is also home to the Festival Theatre where many high profile productions are offered throughout the year.

Tourist information brochures make sure that you won't run out of things to do and see.

Thanks for a lovely comprehensive winter review.
The absolutely beautiful setting makes up for the limitation of a lodge.
*** Unfortunately I have no control over the electricity supply. I have found it better to warn guests rather than deal with overload and usually this way there is no problem.
*** My Maltese is a breed of dog does that does not moult. However, previous guests had a white dog. Because of the difficulty in removing dog hairs and with respect to future guests, I no longer accept pets but this dog had been booked months ago.
